steering wheel off centre?
A friend of mine is looking at buying a 93FD, its had a recent rebuild and has done 160k, went for a look and took it for a drive and it goes really good, only thing is the steering wheel is turned slightly to the right ( its right hand drive) but the alighnment is all good.
We asked the the car yard about it but its NZ new from Japan so there is no history of any accident, can this ( the steering wheel out of alighnment) only be caused by an accident?

assuming no accident.................
a skewed steering wheel is a very simple fix. someone aligned the car without locking the steering wheel in a centered position. (the the right steering link is too long and the left is too short.
fix is: realign so both right and left steering links are the same length.
given the steering wheel skew i would not trust the alignment and would properly realign the car.
good luck

Another possibility is that someone R & R'd the steering rack and did not get the steering shaft properly positioned into the rack for the steering wheel to be centered. Sounds like a weekend warrior fix.

The clock spring would have nothing to do with the steering wheel being off center. If the steering wheel was removed and not re-installed in the sam splined position, this can occur. The clock spring often is replaced after the air-bag has deployed, hence removing the steering wheel, but would not affect wheel position.
IF indeed the alignment is in spec, the cause is usually that the steering wheel was off center when the toe part of the alignment was set. When aligning, the technician is required to lock the steering wheel in a straight position, usually with a spring loaded tool that goes from the bottom of the wheel to the drivers seat, and then sets the alignment. It is not that uncommon for this part to be screwed up when the tech is in a hurry. To correct you can re-center the steering wheel and then reset the toe, meaning another alignment.
I'd have this car checked over for accident damage or repairs, and the alignment measured before purchasing
