Squeaking coming from under car
As title states, I have a *very* annoying squeak coming from under my car. It seems that the intensity of the sound grows when listening from under the car, near the transmission/engine interface.
The sound I am describing is a fairly high-pitched squeak. I've been dealing with this for quite some time, so I have a good idea of what conditions cause it to happen...
- Car needs to be warm (85*C+) for at least 5 minutes.
- Sound only starts surfacing when under very low throttle, or coasting in gear.
- It starts very faint in intensity, but if I drive for a considerable amount of time, it will grow louder. In addition to occurring under low load and no load, it will happen at idle - very loudly.
- Usually happens between idle and 2000RPM
Things I have checked:
- Shaken things under the car. Discovered that the metal panel under the transmission was loose. Also found a loose passenger side motor mount. Fixing both did nothing to fix the noise.
- Bent the heat shield for the passenger side motor mount, since it was very close to the frame.
- All pullies have been checked. None were making the noise. They aren't even near the source of the noise, but it was just good practice to be sure they were not the problem.
Any other clues? Definitely sounds like it's in the area near where the trans attaches to the engine.
Car has stock turbo's, btw.

I'm the only thing I haven't checked down there near where the sound is, is the starter. Thinking about taking it out and rebuilding it when I install my coilovers tonight...

someone with a decent smartphone can fix it. video it, upload to photobucket, youtube or whatever you have, problem solved
edit: could it be that the starter doesnt disengage when it has pulled the flywheel to start the engine?
