Spark Plug Restoration

Hey guys,
I bought this nifty little air tool...Its for cleaning sparplugs...Most of you probably know about this but the difference when you clean them is amazing... Well, you might say..."why the **** don't I just buy new plugs? Well, I am running a couple of those Greddy race plugs at about $35 a piece...so I just wanted to get as much out of them as possible.

Here is a photo of the tool and before and after photos on the plugs I cleand.

I've had one of these spark plug cleaners for the longest time. For $30, it's one of the best investments I've made for my car. When I first got my AEM, I was fouling plugs like crazy, but with the cleaner, the last a long long time. BTW I got mine off the Matco truck.

Looks like a worthwhile investment even if you're using the stock plugs.

I have one of them, really help exspecially on breaking in a new engine, since plugs get foul very quickly.

You also might want to try a very thin piece of metal (like a tooth pic) to make sure there is no sand left in the bottom of the plug and to clean little noks and crannys.

The only problem with that is sometimes to blast it further into the plug, I use to do that until I started to notice on a few that sand was getting trap, just an extra precaution.

Yeah that cleaner works great. I'll agree it's a lifesaver with those of us who have race plugs.

Just remember, s spark plug should only be cleaned 3 or 4 times MAX though, then you should really be replacing it with a new one.

Yup, every FD owner should have one .

Coupla good points made......make sure you clean the plugs afterward with comp air/carb cleaner to get all the sand out before screwing them back in. Also, be aware that sandblasting them does slowly wear them down.

BTW...What do you guys think about the two leanish looking plugs...Those are my trailing and the two race plugs are my leading.

I'm not so concerned with the race ones as I am with the other two that look kinda burnt...from a plug diagnosis stand point would you say that's normal or looks a little lean?

Well, I am headed to the dyno tomorrow so I can check the AFR and see for sure.

For plugs that are platinum coated, doesn't this blast away that coating?

why would you buy platinum plugs anyways??? they burn out in the same time the regular ones do. i NEVER buy platinum plugs for my rx-7.

i thought about getting one of those things. . . but figured the sandblaster in the corner would work just fine. hahahaha.
