Question sparco racing seats in 3rd gen

Anyone have experience with these seats in their 3G. I am about to order a pair of EVO's to trim some weight. Any other suggestions

I hear that most racing seats are too wide of the rx-7...

Most seats are too big for the FD. Full buckets are ususally fine but most reclinable do not fit or need to be altered. Some of my friends had to bend the sides of the seats in. Sparco and Reacaro need to be altered to fit if you use the reclineable ones.

Also the stock FD seats (even LEATHER) are VERY light. The lightest Sparcos will only save 1-2 lbs and even a non-adj. FULL RACE seat will only be abt 4-5lbs lighter - I think RECAROS are actually a few pounds HEAVIER

People, unless you've sat in a racing shell seat, be sure to do so in any sports car *before* you commit to buying and installing one. I just had the opportunity to sit in a Momo racing shell seat in my friends NSX, and not only is the seat incredibly difficult to get in and out of (I feel that part of this is the NSX's stance, but not all of it), but it's *horribly* uncomfortable. So, unless you plan on making your FD strictly a track car, I'd recommend against putting one of these in, even if your FD is only a weekend car. It won't make your weekend drives any more pleasurable, and you'll kill yourself getting in and out of it.

The fitment issues for the Sparco Torino and the Recaros aside, they're probably your best bet for a car that's street driven and occasionally tracked.

Everything I have read says that the EVO's are the most comfortable for the street and I get tired of sliding out of the factory ones on cornering.

race seat bracket for FD are sold in Japan only. You can't find it anywhere in US.

By the way, Sparco EVO and Recaro Pole position will fit.

The fiberglass Sparco Evo weigh in at 17 lbs on my bathroom scale - very easy to lift in and out of the car.

The stock seat weigh considerably more.

BTW, I am in the process of bulding some brackets for the Sparco.

I have a Sparco Pro 2000 racing shell seat in my FD. It is pretty comfortable even for long trips, but incredibly difficult to climb out of. My car is a daily driver, so I'm trying to master a technique of getting out without looking like an uncoordinated dork.

Waltk88, got any pix of your brackets?

BTW, my Sparco Pro2000 kevlar weights 10lbs and the Pro2000 fiberglass weighs 15lbs.

My car is in the shop getting a new motor. When it's done, I can get some pics of the seat brackets.

I have the Sparco Torino seats in my FD. There is absolutely no brackets that you can buy for the seats, they have to be custom made. It will take about 6-8 hours just to make the bracket for one seat. I will try to post up some pics soon.

I installed a Sparco Evo into my 93. I had to fab a bracket for the seat. It cost me about $20 in material from Home Depot. The stock leather seat was about 35lbs and the Evo is about 13 if I recall correctly. There are a couple of pics at:

So how bad IS the fitment for the Torinos, or similar sport seats?

I'm 6'1" and wondering if it's even going to be worth the trouble to put in seats that don't fit and that I don't fit into.

I'd love to have them though.

Wonder how much it'd cost to get the stockers reupholstered...hmm...
