Exclamation SOMEONE-build a better LARGE SMIC!

Why is M2 the only vendor to sell a large SMIC? I wanted a Crooked Willow one, but Duane's not doing them anymore supposedley. My perfect IC kit would be set up like CW's with the IC slanted forward, use a core like M2's, be securely mounted with brackets, have a nice sturdy aluminum duct, and work with the y-pipe. That would be sweet. Here's hoping.....

if you want it so bad why don't you go to spearco and have them make one for you? many have done it but it's not easy. why don't you just buy someone's crooked willow ic then? their core is the same thing as the older m2 large core.

Well, there aren't too many CW kits for sale, and even if there were, it's the OLD core. I want the new 22-row (?)core. Not to mention, I've yet to see a CW duct. And I'd still have to make a custom pipe to attach to my y-pipe.

I've thought of just getting a core from Spearco for $500, that would be easy, but like you said, the rest isn't. How many fabricators are out there willing to take the time to make a one-off aluminum duct for an RX-7? It'd probably cost more than the core.

Hence, someone make a kit.

Check shane racing. I think they have one. Quality stuff too. I know they have a fat one that is a true drop in upgrade.

Check with BNR Supercars. I have seen their SMIC and it is very much like what you described. Slanted foward, aluminum airduct and works with the y-pipe. It's comparable to the M2 medium in size though, not the large. Either way, it's a very nice piece.

Pettit's "Cool Charge III" (or whatever it's called) is just like a M2 large but for $2200. I think not. SR only has that horizontal thing. I am hoping BNR comes out with one because their Med. IC does sound nice. I already have a PFS (PMS is more like it) IC, but now that I've moved the battery, there's room for something bigger. And yes, the PFS IC will be for sale on the forum so don't PM me.

I know that you probably don't want this response, but maybe it will be useful.

So many companies have built ICs for the FD that the market is flooded (that's probably why some companies have discontinued sales, and why few will try to make anything new and different). It's DIY or wait forever.

If you want to DIY, it will be about $1800 to $2300 to do it right.

I would start with Griffin. They can make you a core + the end tanks (end tanks to your specs). This should be in the neighborhood of $1200. I actually drew up an IC Core and end tanks and had them quote it (about $800-900, if I remember correctly). Smaller core though, as I had the stock battery and Apex intake. Griffin's core is significantly better than the Spearco unit (my past life was in the heat transfer business and we tested both for use on commercial diesel engines and F1). The bullet nose on the Griffin tubes was a major factor in improving efficiency. If you want, I can get you the contact info at Griffin.

A good fab shop should be able to do the intake ductwork (aluminum), pipes (mandrel bent stainless), and mounting brackets. $450 to $700.

Hose connections, clamps, misc. hardware and rubber that will seal the core to the ductwork (or if you don't care about pretty, use duct tape here) will probably be $50 to $250 depending on how good you want to go.

If you want something cheaper right now, then you are going to have to settle for an existing design. Or give up on the right now and pray & wait.

I might still do the above some day, but I went with the upgraded SMIC group buy a while back. Although, not as big as you want, it does have the tilt forward design and probably enough room for a slim line electric fan.

Not to split hairs, but the CWC has the same internal design as the M2 large (old version) but it's core is 2 rows larger than the m2. I tested pressure drop across the core in third gear from 2500rpm to redline. Only lost .9psi. Pretty damn efficient if you ask me. I've also dyno tested the M2 medium back to back with the CWC. The CWC produced 4 more hp and had a slight advantage all the way through the rev range even though the M2 was cooler. Tested it first on a cool car, bone cold IC. I "believe" I have them scanned in for those interested. I may have to do a bit of searching as I have tens of thousands of digital images. Anyone know a good archiving program? :-) With that said, I think rotaryextreme.com was thinking of doing one as well, one that would use front AND rear vents, with the rear vent working with their KnightSports hood. If none of that satisfies you, you could import one of the KnightSport horizontal SMIC's from Japan. I'd imagine they're NOT cheap.

Where were you when SPYFISH was having a group buy on SMIC's. Or when I posted it for sale. Still have it look at my link.

Actually a friend of mine just ordered the Cool Charge 3 from Pettot a couple weeks ago and he said it only cost him like $1400, which included the Greddy elbow. M2's doesn't include the elbow for $1499.

Also last I checked SR had discontinued thier horizontal mount. They may be making it again, but it was reciently that I saw that.
