Thumbs up SMB Full exhaust

I got a midpipe from the groupbuy a few months ago. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their work, and Grant was great to work with. He made my midpipe with an extra flange between the cat and the muffler so that I could switch out to a straight pipe or replace the cat if I ever wanted to. He also put a bung on for a wideband O2 sensor.

So I decided to go with them when getting my new catback and downpipe. Previously, I was running an HKS downpipe and RB dual catback. I got the downpipe made without the indentation for RHD cars, and a small resonator put in towards the bottom. The catback was made with a canister style muffler and bent "dolphin tail" style tip.

I have it installed and it sounds absolutely amazing. Is MUCH louder than my previous setup, but sounds really mean and clean. I don't have any pix of it on the car yet, as it's nightime and my camera isn't so good with dark shots. I'll post up some pix on the car tomorrow. The muffler exits at an angle and the bent tip exits straight out pointing somewhat down.

The fitment of all of their pieces was equivalent to OEM, the welds are outstanding, and the materials are excellent. Grant is AWESOME to work with and is very quick to reply to emails. He can be emailed at Grant@walkerman.com.au

Here's one that Grant took while testfitting on one of their cars.

Kai, should be a little over a grand.

Aharada, I'm happy you went the SMB route. I will also be going that route, but 3.5mm piping and muffler style dolphin tail from them.

that will probably be a small restriction in your system... unless you're talking wall thickness!

LOLLLL that's exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks guys I am very happy with it so far. I'd rather not say exactly how much it set me back, but since I had it built to order and I had custom requests, it was more than you'd spend on off-the-shelf parts.

I only have my Voyager camera phone, so I'll try to take a sound clip, but I don't know how it'll come out.

I have an SMB cat and am very impressed with the quality. However, I don't think it is possible to pass smog with this cat (see my experiences here), which may be an issue for some.

Few pix I just took on the car.

I tried to take a video/sound clip, but it wouldnt come out too well with my phone. So I'll get one once I get a hold of a good camera.

The exhaust note is the deepest I have ever heard on an import. It almost sounds like a V8 at idle. And with the resonator in the downpipe, you can't hear much sound from the motor like before, but more just the super deep exhaust note.

I meant inch! HAHA! Hey Andy can you PM for the price for the DP w/ the resonator in it. I got a quote from Grant on all 3 items at 3.5inch (remembered this time) and for the air pipe to be relocated to before the cat (didn't like the idea of it being behind the cat).

Having the air pipe after the cat would be absolutely pointless, no?

Yeah, but that's how they have it pictured on the site. Do you have yours before or after the cat?

Mine is before the cat. Though I bought mine from a local seller so perhaps he requested this configuration. A post cat pipe would do nothing for emissions to the best of my knowledge.

Do you have an MP3 player? Most come with mics. My Zen Vision:M has a very good quality mic, and was able to record my car at idle very clearly. Maybe that's another option for you.

The exhaust looks great, by the way. Depending how it sounds, I may have to look into one.

looks great! I was considering that DP for my black car, but damn it's expensive! Did you consider having it ceramic coated?

I too am looking into a full exhaust from them, minus cat-back though. Post your impressions of everything because it looks really good!

Just to give everyone a heads up. I contacted Grant at SMB, and he told me that JKL Racing Engineering is now they're North American distributor. I'm guessing that includes Canada too. So I'll be giving those guys a call soon. SMB stuff is great.

Aharada you need to get us a sound clip man. I know your car is sounding MEAN!!!

I have an SMP 3.5" dump pipe, and ran into clearance and allignment issues- the transmission brace had to be cut and re-welded and the pressed bit near the flange wouldn't clear my turbo, and had to be bashed... All in all it was a PITA to fit.

That said, the gains are great (with a 3.5" cat and mid section, stock rear section)- 20kw at the wheels, back to back on the dyno.

Do you LHD folks need the pressed in section??

27 hp with a 3-1/2 inch downpipe and midsection only? what was your original hp figure and what are your basic mods?

I received my 3.5" to 3" dp custom made for LHD cars without the indent for RHD steering racks. It's currently being ceramic coated so I havn't tested it but the quality is very nice, I look forward to trying it out and will run before and after dynos.
