Single turbo with no tune and no port?
not exactly sure if i can get my question/concern out properly but i'm going to try....
i'm in the middle of a motor swap and while transferring all the parts over from the blown motor to the new block i found my turbos to be destroyed. its as if someone threw a rock in the blades. well, with the motor out of the car and in pieces and all that, i'm on the fence about just going single instead of getting another set of twins.
but heres the issue. the block isn't ported, and a tune is going to cost me around 1000$. i have a power fc, fuel kit, and all the supporting mods with the exception of a fuel pump. if i do go single at this time then my set up would be, kgparts and stock rail with 1200?-850 injectors, aeromotive fpr, this turbo kit
my question is, would it be safe to drive around normally with that set up on the base map for the pfc and no port? also, when i do get it tuned, will the fact i dont have a port be a big issue? i dont want a full power tune, i want a VERY conservative tune, something with a little power when i want it but not ridiculous.
is there anything else i should be taking into consideration?

Why bother? You don't need the engine out of the car to install a single turbo... I would just get a cheap set of used twins for now until you are ready to go single. That way you can enjoy your car instead of constantly tinkering with it and being worried about it until it gets built and tuned properly.
That being said, if your tune already accounts for all your other mods (fuel mainly), and you baby the car (no boost, low RPMs), you should be fine to driving it with a different turbo.

Car will run pretty close to fine on the stock map as long as you stay out of boost. Don't worry about the porting, just don't go with a huge *** turbo. Just get a set of 1600's or 2000's for the secondary rail, leaving the primaries alone.

That turbo kit looks like it was caught in the tsunami last year. I say buy a set of stock twins, enjoy the car, save money, then buy a turbo kit that has not been 10 feet under water.
However to answer your question, yes it will be fine as long as you do not get into boost, you do not need porting.

i believe mr wastegate is right... why even do it half right? i would drive it with the twins, save the money and switch everything when the time is right.....and in that sense i might have a set of twins you can buy for cheap... im going down to IRP where my car is next weekend (11/10), i will take pictures of my stocks and come up with a price if ur interested...

that turbo was actually owned by the person that sold me the car. he was trying to sell it for 500$ but no one bought it so he sold it to upgarage. for those that dont know, its the gamestop of car parts. he bought that kit with intentions to put it on his car (which i currently own) but his wife and kids took priority.
but thanks for all the advise everyone. its just, i have the motor out of the car and to save time later i was thinking of just doing everything while it was out. but, i'll go ahead and get a set twins. there is a guy selling a set locally that i talked to already. he's only asking 100$.
but with that kit, i'll be fine with no port? thewird said just dont go with a huge *** turbo, is the one in that kit considered big? i dont really think so. not compared to what others on here do.

the turbo is not huge by any means.... what are the markings on it?
It should have an ID tag of sorts to let you know what kind of turbo it is.
But basing it on the looks, its probably a Trust/Greddy 18G/20G turbo. I'm very unsure about the turbo itself since theres a lot of oxidation on the compressor housing meaning its been sitting for a long time and not stored very well.
As far as the "Tialsport" wastegate, looks like a cheap knock off, as I do believe Tial laser etches their name on their wastegates, but hey, I have been wrong before.
I would be VERY weary of it, sure Up Garage and others like it are Mecca for aftermarket parts since they're so dirt cheap, but its also a prime area for knock off parts as well since there are so many shops in Japan.
Seriously.... stock twins are dirt cheap...... you can find a good used set for $200USD probably less since you're in Japan. If you want to make power, you can make plenty of it on the stock twins, especially with the more efficient 96 and up turbos.
This way you can simply take the money you would have spent on a turbo kit, on a good tune.
