single turbo installed.. Hunting idle and smoking.. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
During the winter months i took my Stock FD and converted it over to a single setup. I have all supporting mods such as upgraded fuel system, Power FC, HKS twinpower, emissions deleted w/block off plates, ect.. Well the other day I started it up for the first time and ran into some issues First thing is i have a Hunting idle between 900-2700 rpms... No big problem, I just thought it was a vacuum leak, found a leak where my secondary injectors go into the LIM. I replaced the o-rings and fired it back up and still have the same issue. About this time i noticed that dark smoke ( black & blue ) was shooting out the exhaust I left it alone for a couple of days due to anger. Today i went outside and fired it up for the hell of it, AND what do ya know I have a steady idle at 2900 rpms I thought the power fc learned the idle so i felt a little better. NOT EVEN A HOUR LATER I STARTED IT UP AND HAVE THE SAME HUNTING IDLE LIKE EARLIER!!!!!!!!! damn this thing has me very confused, I think all the smoke is due to running very rich ( during the steady idle afr was at 9.2-9.3 )
Now before anyone says take it to a good mechanic or do a compresson check I want you to know this car is going to PFSUpercars at the end of April if the guy who wants to buy it does not. I just want to go over everything to try to fix the idle and get to the bottom of the smoking before i go to PFS or make the sale. I heard that it could be a TPS problem but I just don't know...

I forgot to say before everything I had good compression and not a single problem w/ the car.... I will get a video and post it up because i know it's hard to say what seems to be wrong with a car when you can't actually see it lol...

It sounds like a vacuum leak between the throttle and the engine... Are you sure you fixed the injector?
Once my secondary throttle valves stuck partially open...
Vacuum lines usually dont make it rev that high, so maybe a gasket between manifolds.

I took brakecleen (sp) and sprayed around the UIM to check for leaks, That's how i found out about the secondary injectors. I also sprayed around the UIM gasket and got no change in idle. I noticed that a bolt for a block off plate is loose so i think that could be it... any idea about the smoke?

Its probably just your car rich as hell and cold start oil burning. Add that its at higher rpms when starting... Lot more smoke.
Wish I could get hands on and look for myself.
Did you check throttle stuff, or back of the intake by the firewall... some of those little things screw up sometimes, Had the heat triggered wax pushrod thing lock in place one time which made the throttle stick.
Take the intake elbow off, get a big flat item and start the car with it blocking the entire throttle. It may cut a little intake air to lighten the startup load... and not have it rev so high. allowing you check for leaks, but not with the car screaming.
Get a non flammable spray and mist near the injector holes and watch for suction... I dont know, anywhere really.

I checked everything on the back of the UIM... I think i will have to take if off and check all of the block off plates... I deleted the double throttle and alot of other soleniods as well as the thermowax pushrod soleniod ( forgot the name of it, I think its the AWS?). I thought that the smoke was just it running rich as hell and buring the oil during cold start up, so thanks for the info. I should have a Video up tomorrow.

Thanks for the Info. If anyone else has an idea about what could be up please let me know. Also The car does not have a problem starting up so I don't think anything is wrong internally.

Well first off. If your bleed screw is completely closed it could cause the problem.
If your TPS isn't properlly setup it could cause this problem (it did so on mine). Would be fine then start hunting all of a sudden.
I think switching to a manual throttle control might help with this. Do you have a Dataloggit for your Power FC.

yes, I did disable the fast idle cam. I also took the spring out and screwed the screw all the way down. I remember seeing that had to be done when you disable the fast idle. Also its pulling 17-18 vacuum at idle. When the idle was not hunting the car felt really good.

Will work for horsepower
After removing everything like you have i had to adjust both set screws on the tb to keep it from searching. And if you upgraded the injectors and set the pfc it will still be rich until its tunned.

Open the bleed screw 1/4 turn from closed and re-initialize your Power FC and re-do the learning process. This is assuming you have not had your car tuned. If so you will need a dataloggit so you can reload your map while maitaining the values that the learning establishes.
