should i get an rx-7
I have 15K from saving and get an annual income of 6,000. I was wondering if i should get a 3rd gen rx-7. I saw a lot for less than 15k but i wanted to know if 6,000 will cover the yearly maintenance cost. I want a better car than my 89 mx-6. I read a thread just like this but im just hoping i wont just get No's.

Of course there is the potential that you could spend way more than 6k a year on repairs(if you blow your engine compounded with a few other problems) but most likely you will be more than ok. If the car is in good shape, you do the reliability mods, you take good care of it, and you don't have any bad luck you could get by with just a grand(but the extra 5k is nice insurance). The real question should be how old are you and do you want to have all of your money going toward your car. Personally I think if you are less than 20 your probably not mature enough to get the car. As far as money goes if you want to put all of it into a car, I'm right with ya.

6k annual income?
i hope you live at home or something, so you
dont have to pay rent or bills!!
if your 6k is going towards all your living expenses too,
i'd suggest against it, you probly wouldnt even be able
to afford gas.
but if thats 6k going towards the car only,
then sure, go for it!
just be careful, and take REAL GOOD care of it,
so the engine doesn't blow. Cuz aside from an engine
rebuild, you should be able to afford it no prob.

6K a year? I wouldnt suggest buying one. Gas costs a lot these days... if you drive 1000 miles a month and get 14 miles per gallon@1.75 for 91 grade... that comes to a total of 1500 dollars per yer on gas expenses alone. Figure in about 1400 per year on insurance, depending on your age, record, and some other factors...and you're already close to 3K. Reliability mods off the bat:
replace AST: 140
replace radiator: 500
silicone hoses: 100
downpipe: 250
boost gauge: ~150
spark plugs+wires: 200
fuel filter: 50
that's another 1500 considering that you do all the work yourself
that leaves you with 1500 dollars left at the end of your first year...which gives you 125 dollars a month for any other costs you may have (food, phone bills) That's cutting it REAL SHORT, ghetto short. If any problems come up where you need to get a compression check or god forbid, a rebuild, what are yougonna do?
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but only making 6K a year and then using the FD as a daily driver is gonna put you in debt. Wait till you have a higher paying job so that you can actually go out and enjoy yourself and be happy instead of worrying about the car and making payments all the time. It's much better to buy an FD and have some financial security. Owning an FD with very little money is walking a fine line...if the car breaks down, you're pretty much assed out, and more than likely, you'd have to sell it.
Being broke all the time is no fun, either is having bad credit. I don't think it's worth taking that risk just for a car.

like the others said, if the 6 g's is only for the car, go for it, but if not, then no. personally, just living off 6 grand a year is fairly difficuly. for me, i live with my parents (hey, i'm still in high school, can i help it? ) and know the mortgage alone is 6 grand a month.
aloha.

Yeah, im 17, and im still in high school. Thanks for all your help guys. I still live with my parents and they still pay for my food and clothes and stuff. Maybe ill just stick to my mazda mx-6 until i get a better job. Then ill get an rx-7.
i guess i was a little obsessed with the movie,"The Fast and Furious." That car looked better than a ferrari.
And also because someone with a 2001 mustang GT told me that he wanted an rx-7 but he couldnt get one because they're too rare. He told me to get one if i find one because it goes 0 to 60 in 4 seconds.

I'm thinking about selling mine. It's a fun car but my mom really really hates the car, and she wants to see it gone. Why? Cause it's a money pit, that is as fast as.......no, Faster than a Ferrari.
