I think the center consol thing might just be JDM . My 93 is the same way.

just to clarify that (in case some people can't read between the lines) - parallel (version VI) RZ and spirit-r seats are the same.

Ramy, Joe was up in NJ on business and got in touch with me so we met up. My FD was only running 14 psi or so due to the warmer weather, so the car didnt feel all that fast to me. That extra couple psi makes a lot of difference, lol.

(edit: on my profec b, the low boost **** maxed out at about 16 psi in the colder weather, which had dropped down to 14 psi or so. I didnt feel like dialing in higher boost on the very touchy 'high boost' ****, so just left the boost setting alone)

Phil (Herblenny), how much do you weigh and how tall are you? Although Ramy seems to think I'm a skinny lil azn, I am 5'6 and weigh 180 lbs, so I am curious if the oem rz's/spirit r's will be comfortable for me.

thanks!
Rich

Woah didn't expect all the responses.

Anyone have input on the red Recaros that come out of Integras?

I'm looking for a red seat to match my interior but something that is comfortable and supportive.

I'm 5'7" and weigh 155 lbs so the seat is fairly comfortable with me. There is definitely a lot less padding for your *** compared with the stock R1/R2 suede seats which is not a negative thing imho. I tilted the seat a couple notches back which suits my "driving style" haha

Doesn't really metter what anyone says, whether the seat is comfortable or not, it is only their opinion - it will different for every individual. If you can find them, you simply need to try them out for yourself. Concensous is that they are comfortbale and supportive, but they won't be right for everyone. Personally I do have the Spirit Recaros (but then I do have a Spirit ), I am resonably sized (** cough cough**!!) and they are a bit of a squeeze, but once in, are very supportive and surprisingly comfortable, for me! I have driven for several long journeys, and they do feel good!

On the center console - every JDM FD I've seen has had the center console that doesn't go all the way back. Reason being many, if not most, of the JDM cars had the back seat, and this gives the back seat passengers more room. Mazda just made one center console for the RHD cars, as far as I can tell, and it doesn't go all the way back.

BTW, VERY good info here on the Spirit R/RZ seats. I had been thinking about getting a driver's side seat for my car, but I spend a LOT of time in my car, as well as doing long road trips. The stock seats are very comfortable for me, so I'll leave it be .

I guess I started a debate, I actually have no first hand exp. with the Spirit R seats, I was just commenting on some things I have heard, and also my own experience with other seats. It is opinion based and for some they are very comfortable, I don't doubt that!

Makes sense Dale!! Thanx

7racer, Phil's right, but here's the problem. Ppl become disillusioned by the idea of a "Spirit R" and expect it to be some Cosmo luxury FD. It's not. The Spirit R was supposed to be the pinnacle of Mazda's FD production line. And the Recaros are hardcore racing seats. They're not sports seats, they're not performance seats...they're straight up RACING seats. They're designed to hold you place and not let you move. End of story. And they do that VERY well (which is why they're so friggin snug). I personally think they're comfy if you get them positioned well (which means you fabricate your own brackets if you're tall) b/c they're designed for apparently smaller Asian guys (Rich, gosh, you'll fit perfectly I'm just messin man... I got nuttin but love ) So they're serious seats. No reclining back, the material is actually flame-retardant (very expensive), etc etc. I found the seats to be supportive, but then again, I didn't sit in them for THAT long. Nothing as long as Phil's Dragon run...but I'd imagine I'd have the same complaints Phil has. I think we're about the same height.

So it depends on what preconceived notion you come with. 99% of the ppl that have these seats do NOT drive their car often, so the seats don't see much use. As such, ppl don't complain about ride comfort etc... that's just the nature of it. So again, it depends on what you're looking for.

Jason, yea I noticed the difference in the center console and tranny tunnel a while back

Whew.
~Ramy
Ramy very honest answer and opinion, no matter what Ramy is the man when it comes to JDM parts and practices great customer service. He has my vote of confidence til the end.

Herb, do you have the reclining rails? Also, what do you mean when you say you can't move the seats far back?

Also, what makes them lack support?
No reclining rails. I believe reclining rails only came in certain year RZ's

For some reason, I can't move the seats back like the stock seats. This makes getting in and out slightly more difficult.

Maybe this is just my Recaros.. who knows.

Rich, I weigh about 170lbs, 33 waist, and just shy of 5'9".
I think you'll fit in fine. I am also using 4 point harness since I lack the stock belt clip.

Also, I want to be clear that its fairly comfortable. For DGRR, I drove about 800 miles in 3 days. I just hated getting in and out of the car.

haven't checked those out yet, Rich, but I did just order the Momo Millenium Sport steering wheel with the blue stitching. I don't want to go to crazy or vibrant inside the cabin. But I think the wheel will accentuate it more and if the blue seats match, I agree, it may look pretty cool. But if that were to happen I would stop there.

afgmoto1978. i originally wanted pro2000s for my car, but the measurements are too wide for the cabin. ive found one guy on this site who fit some in, but i wasnt sure how. i then ordered sparco Evo's and they were too tall and too wide. i had to settle for reclinable sparco torinos. looking back, i shouldve gone with recaro pole position wildcat. maybe in a couple years when i start getting serious about auto-xing i will.

They fit better than almost any of the other seats, but still come very close to the interior door trim. The horn sticks out and I have to slam the door to close, but it works fine and the seats are awesome. A major PIA to get in and out of though! Need-a-t2 and I made some custom aluminum brackets to mount the Recaro side rails to the stock sliders.

I have a Recaro SRD from an Integra and am in the process of fabbing mounts to get it into my FC, but that Recaro is so wide I have a hard time believing it would ever fit in an FD.

you might look into fixed back seats from sparco, momo and even spoon and mugen. even memoryfab has some nice cf seats, cant remember if they come in red but for the price the memoryfabs are nice and available with FIA cert. Ive heard the chargespeed seats are not high quality.

love those Recaros from the Spirit-R and RZ.
hot damn!

Lucky bastard lol. Rich, you owe me a ride when I come up your way in May Joe, def. lemme know when you're gonna be up in this area. I'd love to meet ya

Phil, you're 5'9? DAYUMN. I didn't think I was much taller than you... I guess it's been too long since we chilled huh?

Oh and Phil, I think it's just that the sliders on the rails don't go back as far as the OEM rails, that's all. That's one of the major reasons I'm getting custom rails built for my seats.

If you ever change your mind Dale, lemme know. I almost always have a single driver's side sitting around

Really? Looking at the side pic that RX7 RAGE posted it looks like there is a good amount of support over stock seats.

One other important detail I'm not sure has been mentioned in this thread is the weight savings with these seats. IIRC these seats weigh in at ~10-11 lbs.

It's still black...for now

I love this guys website as he has a very nice Spirit R with IBM. I still debate how the red seats clash with the blue...

I should've gotten up with you when I went to pick up stuff from Fritz, but I was in a real hurry. That's a long drive. And Barney Fife of VA's finest wasn't too happy with my rate of progress on his Interstate. Next time I'm up there, I'll def. let you know. Maybe I'll have another girl on the rag by then.

Man, those are some sexy Recaro seats! Definitely can't afford importing some of those beauties even if I managed to find a pair in good ol' Japan but I know Recaro make some similar designs for regular purchase but a two piece with a larger Recaro logo.

P.S. ...the pics of the brand new FD with the plastic bags still on the seats would make me think twice about removing it if could locate a pair...must preserve the seats since it costed a fortune!

I don't think they'll fit. This is a great link to check out sizing on sparco seats:

http://www.sparcousa.com/resourceFiles/26.pdf

the main things to look at are 'B' and 'D.'

The milanos are a very tight fit, and they measure 22.17 inches at B and 19.13 inches at D. The Pro2000 measure 23.50 at B and 19.37 at D.

hope this helps,
Rich
