searched, but have Q on rebuild options/upgrades

Hi. Just got a 93 touring in need of an engine rebuild. My question is: what internal engine modifications should I consider doing, if any?
- seems like 2mm apex seals will suffice, will 3mm get me anything?
- should I consider water channel mods?
- what about oil mods? some people say it is worthwhile to do oil mods that increase oil pressure
- seals? what kind/material should I consider?

The car has a 3" downpipe, stock cat, 3" cat-back, Blitz intake, Blitz intercooler, Power FC and a Koyo radiator. I plan on using the stock sequential twins. I do NOT plan on running super high boost and I'm not looking for maximum HP. The car is plenty fast for the street and I want a strong, reliable motor that I can drive w/o worrying everytime I start playing around. Might even swap the intake for stock to be able to keep things in check.

I will mostly use it on the street and will do some track days. Maybe an occasional autocross too. I doubt I'll ever drag it.

I am probably going to get the motor done locally at J&R in Elmont, NY. Joe seems very knowledgeable and I've heard good things. Plus shipping half way around the country is a pita and he can tune it for me when its done.

I've searched around and read a bunch of posts, but still would like some input on the questions above. I did find a bunch of good posts on clutches and bought an ACT street/strip that will be installed while the engine is being done. Thanks for your help.

- Alberto

btw - This is my first 3rd Gen , but I had a few 2nd Gens previously.

well, the only thing u will get out of 3mm apex seals is longer life, they seals are gonna eventually crack or what not and the only thing 3mm has on 2mm is a little bit longer life

Just found the thread on apex seals: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=19756

I think I'll go with 2mm. Anyone else have any input on my other questions? Thanks.

When I did my rebuild I got a Rotary Street Port done and also had a few other items put on and or taken off. I had rotary do my silicon hoses and also had them put on a set of block off plates. Got radiator doen which you already have and also got the catch tank replaced with a metal one. Street port is not necessary but you can tell a difference in performance from it compared to one with out a street port. Just food for thought though.

thanks. I'd love a streetport, but not just yet... Drove one once in an old gen 1 rx7 with Holleys and that was real nice

I'm just trying to figure out if its worth doing any mods to the oil/water passages and what kind of seals I should consider and why.

I'd vote for 2 mm's as you are running stock and seem to plan to continue doing so. You just wouldn't benefit that much with the wider seals, pay a lot of money for it, and they break too if you lean out the engine (mostly from bad tuning with programmable ECU's around here!). Just not as fast.

Coolant mods are probably worth it if you plan to run hot. Fan mod makes them more or less irrelevant IMO, but I'm like that... Fan Mod for President!

This info might help you out:

I'm getting my motor ported and stage 3 oil mods w/ 2mm seals. I spoke with Joel, he said that 3 piece 2mm seals actually seal better than the 3mm seals, which may cause you to lose some power(due to poor sealing).
He also mentioned that the seals that "protect" the housings and turbos when they let go are the Hurley 3mm seals and they cost $500+ extra plus the $200 for machining the rotors. The 3mm seals aren't needed for my 400rwhp goal, according to Joel.
