Title of the thread pretty much explains exactly what i'm looking for haha. I'd like to put in a pair of RX8 seats in my '92 JDM FD. My concerns were/are.. how well do they fit in? Will it take a quite a bit of fabrication? I've always liked the looks of those seats. I'm talking about the leather seats from the GT. Being heated seats I was also wondering about hooking those up, is there a harnss that it'd need to buy too? I'm a salesperson at honda and a sucker for a heated seat lol, so the idea of having heated seats in my FD excites me in ways a normal seat never can.

Also wondering about the storage bins that are in all of the LHD FDs, i'm assuming they're a direcet swap.. and ive got two questions about this piece.

1) Where can I get it?
2) Does anyone want JDM rear seats? haha

Being as the RX-8 was designed soley to be a 2+2 sedan with considerably more interior space than the FD and the FD interior barely fits the 2 front seats, let alone the back seats which basically seem like an afterthought, I'd say you're not going to get it to happen.

The FD has like no head room in the rear as well, which will cause obvious problems. Hooking up the heaters in the seats will be the easiest part of the install. The FD is over an inch wider than the 8, but I still don't think it will fit. If you do manage to shoehorn them in there, you wont be able to see out of your hatch, as the 8 seats are very tall.

 

I think you'd have to buy the RX-8 interior and try it. If you succeed to install it I suspect you'll still have absolutely no room back there.

Are you going at this for looks, or because you intend to stick a passenger back there? If the first, go for it. For the second, buy another car.

also, IMO the rx-8 seats are ugly as hell. they look like they were designed for fat people.

I did do a little bit of searching, however I didn't see anything about the heated seats.

I think I must have made a mistake in my first post.. what I was looking to do for the rear seats in my car is take the storage bins from a north american FD and replace the bucket seats that are in my JDM. Anyone have any information about that?

wait what? you want to remove your JDM rear seats and install the storage bins? Like I said, the rear seats in the FD seem to be an afterthought at best. just buy the bins out of another FD, remove your seats, install the bins. It's a direct swap.

But if you want bins back there why are you starting a thread about putting RX-8 seats back there. Please learn to type in full, coherant thoughts so that we may better assist you.

 

I believe what he's asking about is RX8 seats in the front with US storage bins in the rear.


Jeremey021, I have not seen anyone put any kind of heated seats into the FD. You'll most likely be on your own trying to get something like that to work. I doubt it would be all that hard, but its just not something a lot of people are into for these cars.

What color are your rear seats and interior? I might know someone who would make an even swap with you. You will need to swap out the rear quarter panels and seatbelts as well.

Haha, sorry I wasn't very clear to begin with. I'll try to be more descriptive of what I want next time.

My interior is all black, if anyone does want a set of JDM rear seats/rear quarter panel (With seat belts) you can PM me or just let me know here. If anyone else is willing to part with their storage bins i'll trade straight across. (Or just buy them, whatever works best) Thanks again for the replies!
