Exclamation RX7's how big are they really in the inside?

Going to pick me up a RX7 pretty soon i have driven one about 5 years ago and remember it being pretty small in the inside.

Question how big is the inside? What are you guys weight/height and do you feel in the car?

im 6'2, 200. I fit OK, but i have to lean the seat back slightly to avoid head interference (sunroof model)
Leg room is ample, and ergonomics of accessibility to everything is well laid out. I'm assuming if you get a 2 seater, you're aware of the 1 passenger only deal, and the limited cargo space.

Yea the sunroof model has less headroom. I have a base 3rd gen. Im pretty small, 5'8 180 (its muscle kinda!) and the wraps around me well. Passenger room is fine to. The car feels snug, like a sports car should. I know Ihor from IRP says differently though, hes a pretty big dude. He hates sunroof models.

What are your dimensions human?

I'm 6'1" and anywhere between 175-193 depending on the season and if I'm fighting anytime soon. I fit OK but I really wish the steering wheel was adjustable, my knees are constantly on the wheel no matter how I adjust the seat. But sometimes we all gotta sacrifice for the greater good.

I'm 6'2" about 175-180lbs and I fit with the seat leaned back a little more than I am accustomed to in other cars, but not too bad. This is to get headroom and knee clearence on the steering wheel. I am about one or two notches from the farthest back on the seat rail. I fit great on the passenger side!

no trunk space...can't put a set of golf clubs anywhere but in the passenger seat.

I'm 6'2 250 and I fit decent... just like others have told you, stay away from the Touring models (sunroof) and if you run out of legroom, pick yourself up a 320mm steering wheel and you'll be happy! Where in South Florida? My FD is in Miami right now if you're interested, you can pass by my dad's shop for a test fit

Pretty funny cause I'm 5'8" and about 170-175 and I feel cramped inside my FD.
My knees hit the steering wheel everytime and the headroom isn't the greatest. Touring model.
I actually feel my 85 GSL-SE is roomier than my 3rd gen....
I will be replacing the steering wheel soon so i can get a little bit more room...

I'm 6'0"/180 and fit just perfect. I have a 94 FD and I have to scoot the seat back a few notches. The only thing is my knees hit the steering wheel like everyone else. It has two little cubby holds behind the seats for storage and hardly any space in the trunk. Just fine for me!

I'm 6'1" and about 225lbs (not fat). I fit in snugly. If course, I keep the seat towards the rear (about 1-2 clicks from the furthest setting back), and I'll recline the seat backwards a bit, but I do that because it's more comfortable for me than being all hunched up on the steering wheel.

As others have mentioned, one passenger only (unless you have the rear seat, and a *very* small passenger with a high tolerance for discomfort.

If you remove the spare tire and are very inventive/careful you can fit a moderate amount of stuff in the car though (I fit six (6) extra wheels/tires into my car (2x 225/16, 2x 235/17, 2x 255/17) for my first ever drift day last weekend..)

5-11 195lbs. Fits like a glove. do i wish it to be a little bigger??? No! just perfect for a weekender, However i have seen issues with the taller guys tracking the FD with helmet on and hitting the headliner area for clearance.

Thanks alot guys i was just worried a bit given i am about 6ft 225 not a very small dude, i am going to go check out a few of them tomorrow i have always loved the RX7's nice body real stylish good power but worried about how big it is on the inside. I read some posts on some pretty big guys that fit in here so i think i might be ok, or i just might have to pick a giant shoe horn.

Thanks for the help!

I'm 6'1" and 220 so...almost identical height and weight. This is a SMALL car that you pretty well more WEAR than drive...lol! The seats kill me after about 2 hrs....that is my max in this car.

But...it is ALL worth it!

6'4 220lbs and I fit fine. It's a 2 seater so there is alot of room. Most 2 seaters I have owned have had more then enough room for me.

It is slightly bigger than a Miata on the inside. It is noticeably tighter than a Supra, a 3000GT, a Camaro, a Corvette, or a Mustang.

BTW: The inside space is not to bad very snug but not as small as i was thinking.

Me too, im like 5'9 156lbs and i think its pretty tight. I have to literally use the door sill to help me get out of the car lol.

I have an aftermarket steering wheel with the quick disconnect hub in case i really need to take it off to get in and out of the car.

This is a valid point that I forgot about earlier when I posted, I have a Touring model with the sunroof and its not very comfortable at times when I'm Auto-X'ing with a helmet on. I gotta hold my head at a slight angle and it still hits the roof.

It's hard for me to imagine how some of you bigger guys fit at all. I'm 5' 6" and 155lbs and it feels freakin' tight to me. In the driver's seat, the left side of my left leg is rubbing the door, and the right side of my right leg is rubbing the center console. There is way more room in my FC, and that car is also quite small in it's own right.

I'm 6'2" 215lbs and I fit fine, just have to slide the seat all the way back and lean it a little. I'm going to get a smaller wheel and a hub though to make for a little more knee room, though it's not really bad with the stocker, it just would be nice to have that extra space. I took mine for a 800 mile round trip last summer and it was more comfy than I thought it was going to be for that long of a drive.

That's funny, I get out the same way. It's actually easy when the door is wide open. The car seems perfect to me. 5'9" 157 lbs. Gotcha by a pound.
I do let the seat back to get out. Keeps me from scratching the door and rubbing the bolster raw.

Yeah i always throw the door wide open lol. Well not throw but its the only way for me to get out i believe. People look at me like im an old man but my car is low, the cockpit is tight so i have to do it. Plus when you dont drive the car much, like if you have a spacious DD, then get in the FD, you're still not used to it so you have to struggle a bit.

Yeah you do got me by a pound lol. Im still working out though so hopefully i can gain some more weight. My goal is 170 by summer, then im happy. Then ill just do maintenance.

You should see me like 2 years ago, i was 136-138lbs!!! LOL

The main thing that bothers me is the over-sized stock steering wheel that does not tilt. I need to twist my legs to get under it and have damaged many nice pairs of shoes doing so as they scraped against the metal pedals. You can get a smaller steering wheel and that helps. The sunroof was only an issue for me on the track with a helmet. I'm 6'1" 230. Opening the door wide helps but many times there isn't enough room because of the garage or parking spot you are in. Plus I always felt goofy climbing out. Most other sports cars have more room. Even an s2000 seemed easier to get in and out of. My cobra wasn't bad either until I put in the stupid sparco seats but at least the steering wheel tilted. I could put it up when I got out of the car and it would be easier to get in. If you are a bigger guy you might want to get a smaller diameter steering wheel and do something about the seats. Either modify the rails so they sit lower, or get an aftermarket set where the actual seat is lower.
