RX7 FD3s Series 8 Auto Gearbox
Hi, I have been looking around the net to find if the Series 8 Automatic Gearbox is the R4A-EL? Only seem to find information for 1993-1996 models.
Thanks

It's an automatic. And we're done .
I've never heard to seen anything to indicate that they changed anything with the autos. If it's the same as the earlier autos it's a pretty lame gearbox by auto standards.

I dont have too many options in regards to changing the gearbox. Unless I can find a manual thats clutchless or a good replacement auto.
I am looking to put the Power FC on my car but as you would know it doesnt control the Auto box. So been looking at some aftermarket computers that control the R4A-EL

Since we did not get the series 8 in the states I have no knowledge about if there were any transmission changes. I do know that the PFC can be used with the our auto by using this harness->

It is used by connecting the EMS as a piggyback and allowing the original computer to still control the Transmission. I do not know if you have the same wiring harness on the Series 8. I'd check with the forums that are more Aussie for some help on that.
But, if you desire more flexibility, you can get an aftermarket transmission controller from a company like PCS. This allows you to edit shift points, kick-down, etc, and even hook up paddle shifters if you desire. Here is a link to the PCS site. This one says that it is compatible with the R4A-EL.

Best of luck with the auto, it isn't as bad as the Haters would have you believe.
