rx7 as a daily driver?

I am looking at a 1994 with 50000 on it right now. IF i didnt get all those reliable mods and used it as a daily driver would it be wise? Also how long would the engine last till i needed a new one? If i was to baby the car but not get the reliable mods would it last long still?

No, go buy a Supra

Edit: If you know you there are all these reliability mods out there and people stress doing them and you dont, its abuse.

I've got two of them and I use one as a daily driver. The other I have just about completed the reliability mods and am now starting on the other one. So far I've done the fan mod and am getting ready to do the down pipe. Will convert to Evans coolant before I do the radiator to prevent coolant hose problems.

Angry RX-7 Can be reliable

I've seen them stock with over 100,000mi, so don't beleive the engine is only good for 60k.

Parts wear out and need to be replaced on all cars! Most RX-7 engine rebuilds are from too much boost and not enough fuel.

The rotary burns an average 4oz of oil per gas fillup, so keep that in mind. You will need to add oil every 2 to 4 tanks.

Change oil every 1.5k
Change Spark plugs every 15k
Change fuel filter every 25k

If you can't afford the maintenance, you shouldn't get the car. Would you buy a Porsche if you couldn't afford a tune up ($500)?

Replace the parts that are known to wear out (hoses, AST). Replace the weak links (radiator, intercooler)...etc.

If you replace the intake, replace the exhaust.
If you add a Down Pipe, upgrade/replace the computer.
If you go over 350hp or 14.7lbs of boost, replace the fuel pump and upgrade the injectors.

I agree with everything else, but I've never added or heard of adding that kind of oil to the fuel... anybody else do that?

I think he means that every 2 to 4 tanks you have to add more oil in the ingine due to the burn....not actually in to the fuel.

I think he's referring to the crank case oil.....your level will drop some what between oil changes (about a quart) if you go the full 3k between oil changes....so he's saying to top off the oil every 2 to 4 tanks of gas....depends how much you put your foot in it.

Daily driver, for just about a year now. Change oil every 2k, plugs every 15k, and filters about the same time. All stock 79k on original everything. Just had my car checked out by Larry Scott and all is good, engine still strong.
