rx-7 store downpipe??

what do you guys think about the downpipe that the rx-7 store sells, priced at $250.00, which is the cheapest Stainless Steel DP I have found?

here is the link,

I just ordered one, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm a little concerned about having to remove the stud(s) and also that the O2 sensor is positioned closer to turbos than on some other downpipes. Thinking of going WB and wondering if it will get much hotter and shorten the sensor's life.

As you said, though, it is SS with an atractive price and I've had good luck with their other products.

the RX7 store dp i helped install on a friends FD definitely wasn't perfect... the O2 sensor and everything seems fine, but the only problem we had with the install was that once we bolted up the dp to the engine, and were ready to bolt it back up to the main cat, the bolt holes welded to the end didn't line up perfectly to the bolts on the main cat... they were the correct distance apart, but the whole end piece with the bolt holes was rotated about ~5 degrees more than the bolts on the main cat were... what we ended up doing was bolting in one of the bolts, and using a dremel tool to drill out the other side so that we could tighten the bolt down... i'll try and post some pics to explain better... it has worked fine, no rattles at all, but we did talk to the store about it afterwards and sent Jason the pictures, so hopefully he has fixed it since...

See how it doesn't line up?

So we used the dremel tool on it, works great!

just a side note, my first sentance makes it sound like it is a poor quality dp, which i would like to clarify... it is definitely well made, but the only thing wrong with it was the alignment of the holes for the bolts... i am assuming it has been taken care of since, so i doubt you will have any problems and i am sure you will be happy with your purchase

We are resolving the issue with the holes not being large enough for the main cat. When they made it they used a midpipe. Nice pics

Hey Jason, this is Off Topic but do you have the DEFI BF's in stock. I'd need the Control Unit II, Boost and EGT. Thanks.

some other manufacturers offer a downpipe that doesn't require removal of the turbo manifold studs, what is the difference? I remember from my first experience installing one, one of the studs would not budge, therefore it was a little more work getting it installed.

the holes alignment was the exact same thing that i got with my midpipe from the store. aside for the holes not matching 100% i have to say it was bad ***. thing weighed almost nothing. my buddy checked it out and said it weighed close to half the weight that his MP was. nice product just needs some finishing touches.

I ordered one very recently and I'm going to return it. The design is fairly basic 3" (not contorted like the M2 to make fitment easier) so you'll need to remove the studs.

My beef was twofold:
1) the cat-side flange was not flat, so sealing would have been ugly
2) the holes to mount to the cat were not spaced correctly by .155". I wasn't going to cut away that much steel in a flange that small.

I suppose you could use the pipe anyway like stokedixv did, but I suggest you just buy the m2 or Pettit. (although the Pettit was annoying b/c it was all covered in lithium grease or silver spray paint or something and it rubbed off on everything).

Not to take anything away from the rx7store, but I got my top speed 3" SS downpipe from the rx-7 warehouse for $179 delivered. It had similar fitment issues to the pictures you can see in this thread, but everything was solved by using bolts and lock washers in place of the studs on the cat (snapped 3 or 4 trying to get everything buttoned back up), and a little patience with a dremel. it works great so far.

I recieved and installed my new SS downpipe form the RX7 store and in the process had to do some modifications to the pipe to get it to fit. Total time was about 3-4 hours.

Two issues:
1) The cat-end flange holes were too narrow to match with my 95' Touring's OEM cat, as other have mentioned. I decided to slot these using my die grinder; about 30 minutes. See attached picture.

2) The holes in the turbo flange end did not match either, and in one spot the weld would have prevented the nut from setting flush. After spending over an hour attmepting to install the pipe I was only ever able to get 3 of the studs re-installed. I finally took it back and laid the gasket in place on the flange. I had to enlarge all 4 holes and sligthly slot two in order to match the holes. After this it installed without further problems.

M2 or Petit? Sorry, a little off topic, but those are the only 2 I found that you can install w/o removing studs

I purchased one and the gasket that came with the down pipe was sure as hell no gonna go on. Also the flange that bolts up to the cat was not welded level... if i put one stud up to the hole the other stud was 1/2 away from the other hole. I spent over 5 hours trying to get them to line up and nothing would work. IMO a very cheap product i will be calling jason tomarrow.
