I have seen cars with 20,000 miles that look like they have 200,000 miles on them and cars with 200,000 that look like 20,000...

I have no problem buying a high mileage car as long as it looks as if it was maintained.

I would be interested in knowing how this can be done actually?
my FD has done 90,000km (approx 56,000miles) and I have replaced the standard gauge cluster with a mazdaspeed unit which was brand new - as such it needs to be "wound" up to match the actual mileage of the car.

Is there any easy way to do this, or will I need to take it to a gauge specialist?

All you have to do is buy an aftermarket Speedo like Mazdaspeed, Knightsport, RE-A etc... problem solved

as I said, I have a mazdaspeed cluster :p I just need to know how to wind it up.

didn't think a drill would work twisted7? as the cluster & speed sensor are all electronic?

might just take it to a specialist (at the moment I have to swap my dash back to the factory with every inspection)

FDNewbie offers a service to program an odometer to a specific mileage (to replace an old one)

The paint and interior of these cars are much more fragile than they should be, particularly for the original price of the car. 90%+ of random FDs that I see look somewhat scruffy.

If an FD has not been garaged (or at least covered - and in a mild climate) for its entire life, there is a good chance that it may look aged.

To answer the OP ( and reiterate what Monkman said), yes it is entirely possible to put whatever mileage you want on your odometer. You just have to know the right people. For example, I know people that lease vehicles that drive them well beyond the lease mileage limit but...SOMEHOW when it is time to turn the vehicle in...it is JUST at the limit....lol!
Be aware that to be perfectly legal, you'd have to disclose you'd changed the odometer.
