Most likely the door handle is broken, really common problem.

You can either buy a new door handle from Mazda or get this -

http://www.rx7doorhandles.com/

That replaces the broken part in the handle.

So, you can pull on it, but nothings happening? If so, that's what was happening with mine. I removed the handle and after messing around a bit, realized one of the linkages behind the door wasn't connected. You might want to do the same.

It's a little annoying as it's not easy to reach around that area or even see what you're doing, but it's doable.

Can you maybe go into detail on what you did? I'm not super mechanically savy but I have an idea how it works, and how to get to the mechanisim. But yeah thats what is happening to me, I can still lock my doors I just can't open the door from the outside.

+1 for rx7doorhandles.com they're really worth the money.

If you go with stock ones it will happen again.

I'm having the very same issue. I took it apart and I really cant' see that the handle is broke at all, it just doesn't seem to be pushing the rod down the extra 1/8th of and inch it takes to open the door. I'll take a look at it again soon but mine opens some times and some times it doesn't.
