Replacing the Rear Window Molding

The rear window molding on my 7 has shrunk and pulled away a little. This is the outer molding that goes around the rear hatch window.

I ordered a new molding (for $85 from Ray) and have been told by several people that it takes quite a bit of effort to get this installed right.

What should I use for the sealer under the molding? Anyone have some recommendations on how to do this with NO LEAKS?

Have it done professionally. To do it properly the rear glass will have to be removed entirely from the hatch. I paid around $100 parts and labor to have it done.....they used their own molding, but it fits well and looks oem.

The manual tells how to remove and reinstall rear hatch window outer seal. I did mine after paint. If you do go ahead and try it make sure you remove all the excess window stripping tar from under the window lip.

I need to do my front windshield molding as well. I figure the windshield will need to be removed?

When i had the car restored. I bought the rear molding to replace. The guys that came in to replace said it was easier to use the materials they had. It came out great! About the same as Rich ($100). Call your local installer before buying the molding. I ended up selling the molding on here.

The front windshield molding is very simple to do, not like the rear. No need to remove the windshield. Line up the marks on the glass and stripping at the top of the windsheild. Apply the windstripping sealant and press it in. It is really a half hour job with removing the old stripping and tar and pressing the new in.

Thanks, I always figured you would have to remove the windshield to replace the weather stripping. Now I just need to price the weather stripping now. :-(
