Remove Weather stripping (good or bad) idea?

Was just wondering if removing the weather stripping on the back of the hood closest to the windsheild would allow some extra air to vent out over top of the car.

thus causing more air to escape the engine bay and also more downforce ?

If you search, you will find that it does not help vent hot air out of the engine bay.

Best option is to leave it be.

^-- What he said.

The windshield is a high pressure zone. Air is forced downward at the windshield. This is why the FEED hood is questionable as to its benefit as a functional vented hood vs simply an astetic piece.

It changes many things if you remove that weather stripping. It is a bad idea to remove it. If you want proof. Tape small strings to the bottom of your windshield and remove the piece of weather stripping. Watch as the strings get sucked into your engine bay. Kinda interesting. But it changes the pressure in your engine compartment which changes the pressure under your car which can effect downforce and lift. Dont do it in short. Lame trick.

When it's a show car that is trailered to and from events and never driven. People remove the weather stripping out of ignorance, not because it's an effective mod. Same as people who raise up the back of their hood.

NO, neither raising the hood nor removing the weather stripping are helpful. No matter what you do, allowing air in from the cowl area, unless you have cowl induction, is only going to hurt.

Usually, when a part is on a car, it's there for a reason. This is not one you mess with. Leave the stripping and the hood where they are.

My mechanic has removed the weather stripping AND raised the rear of the hood on his race car. But then again its a full all out race car that weighs 2,200 pounds with a 13B N/A engine in it.

When I removed my engine I noticed the underhood temps dropped drastically. Plus my mileage increased substantially.

Also..............

My car is black so the hood gets really hot in the sun. My windshield wiper fluid temp increased at least 5 degrees

Mazdee's. Maybe theres enough air coming in the giant scoops at the front to compensate for the positive pressure on the windshield.
