"Regular Service" To Do's - Recap

All -

I am going in for some new shocks/springs [Koni/H&R w/ 17" Jspec wheels] in about a week, and will probably do some routine servicing on her. Any other suggestions than the list below (oil change already OK):

** Spark Plugs (last done ~12k miles ago). Wires already upgraded.
** Transmission Fluid. Amsoil?
** Differential Fluid. Amsoil?
** Fuel Filter. Already replaced ~12k miles ago. At what interval should you change out? Needed at this time?

My engine was completely rebuilt @ ~12k ago FWIW.

Thanks,
Eggman.

If you're putting in new shocks and springs and wheels, have them do an alignment as well.

Since you're putting in new springs/shocks, you might as well go ahead and get new upper spring seats from Mazda. They're pretty cheap and if you have more than 60k on them, they're probably pretty trashed. And yes, you'll NEED an alignment after the suspension work.

I change the plugs and coolant and oil the K&N once a year, the fuel filter every 18 months, and then follow Mazda's schedule for tranny, diff, and other fluids. If you track the car at all, you should bleed the brakes as well.

since you are taking the suspension apart, replace the spring pads and upper strut bushings aka pillowballs.

the spring pads sit below the spring against the shock's spring perch. they keep the suspension quiet over bumps.

the upper strut bushings aka pillowballs are the part the goes above the spring and has the 3 bolts that bolt it to the body. they decay over age and make the suspension noisy. i've also heard that if they degrade sufficiently, they will not stop the shock piston under a hard compression and it could pop up into the hood. that last bit might be urban myth and probably only in extreme cases. ray at malloy has all this stuff in stock.
