this is not the "rev matching" on what they are talknig about - when you do that you aren't blipping the throttle at all you are just finding that specific rpm to shove the tranny into gear. they are saying that you blip the throttle to just about where your rpms WILL BE when you downshift, to make the car shift smoothly

I know what they meant, i was just refering to the same process and how i came about discovering it, its basicly the same thing on the downshift just in reverse. none the less either way it is still matching the rpms with the correct gear is it not?

Nope. If you do not put the transmission into neutral and engage the clutch then the engine is not connected to the tranny input shaft, and the input shaft speed is not increased when you rev the engine, and thus the syncros do all the dirty work of speeding up the input shaft.

Sadly I never had a chance to really test out what a lightweight flywheel does on a clutch I already knew. When my clutch finally started to eat the rivits (138k miles) I replaced everything. I went with a 4puck sprung Spec clutch and a racingbeat 9lb flywheel. It was pretty chattery and required reving from a stop just to not buck/stall. The clutch was garbage and blew up on me at the 12k marker. I replaced it with an ACT 6puck sprung clutch. I still have to rev up from a stop and its still not smooth, but a lot smoother than the 4puck. It squeeks when I engage in 1st though. I dunno what thats all about.

There is absolutely no real reason to rev match a modern manual transmission unless you're on the track at 10/10ths. It's also another one of those things everyone insists they can do and yet the far majority suck at it

Damon, do you remember how hard the car jerks when drop a gear w/o rev matching? I do... If you don't think that causes any additional wear and tear, I beg to differ.

^^Try not heal-toe downshifting it in the rain heading for a turn. Its lots of excitment then.
