Recommended boost gauges
#27
Thanks for everyone's input and experiences with their gauges. Seems AutoMeter has mixed reviews. I think I may get the aPexi as originally planned but wanted to see what the reviews were. Thanks again everyone. Oh yah, another note....I got approved for a loan for a specific FD today here on the forum classifieds....so it's all good from this point foward. I'll report back in the coming days/weeks with a status of checking out the car.

Good quality gauges at a reasonable price. They are OEM in some Porsches, so the quality has to be pretty good.
PM me with your e-mail address if you would like a pic.

I agree with AdamC,
If on a budget, the VDO gauges are hard to beat. They have served me well for many many years and they look almost stock.
The lighting on my setup leaves alot to be desired though, as both gauges have different intensities. The mechanical temp gauge I have only has a one wire electrical connection so it seems not to respond to the dimmer on the dash. The 2 wire boost gauge dims, but is exactly that... slightly too dim. Adding the red "condom" only made things worst.

VDO Gauges - vision series
I have the mechanical boost/vac and the electrical coolant temp gauges and they both have the twin lead lighting. When hooked up to the ashtray leads the intensity matches pretty well to the main gauge cluster (with the red/orange condom on the bulbs).

i have the BLITZ DC link gauge
it has some nice features, peak hold, record, you can adjust the gauge if the needle is off also.
it seems to be slightly off though, but it could be because i have the gauge connected to the surge tank nipple.

I stand by Defi as the best, Autometer and the other brand available at Autozone suck for accuracy and quality.
My Defi has good connections with grounds, lighting and overall look of face and needle are almost identical to the OEM configuration.
I paid $120 for my Boost and $100 for my Water Temp and I dont regret it at all.

i have both Defi' boost and A/F gauges in an A-pillar pod. they both look very nice. however, i would strongly suggest against the Defi' A/F gauge as the output vs. input just doesn't seem right. i have a short video of my Defi' guages in action if anyone would care to see it.....
