Rear end strenght

I took my 93 to the track this weekend and it was having a lot of wheel hop problems. Only modifications is a Greddy exhaust and a bonez clutch. On the pass that I broke the rear end I launched at 4000 rpms and when I let the clutch out it just made grinding noises. I was running on 18x10 volk gtps wrapped in nitto street tires. Is it normal to break rear ends on street tires with stock power levels. What should I do to minimize wheel hop. I am thinking of going with a Kaaz differential but I just got the car this weekend and I am only 19 and money can run tight. thanks for the help.

I will have a rear end for sale in the next few days, I haven't heard of too many people "breaking" the stock rear end especially on stock power levels. But if your tires are not heated up and you go to dump it at a decently high RPM and get some good wheel hop, it wouldn't be to surprising to **** one up..

Trailing links and toe links with rod ends instead of rubber bushings are said to reduce wheel hop. Diff bushings are supposed to help, too, but I would try the links first because they are so much easier to install and you probably have slop in the toe link bushings anyway, m2performance.com and k2rd.com sell replacement links.

Tires, wheels, and even tire pressures also affect wheel hop.

I have a "new" (never installed) pair of Unobtanium nylon diff bushings dyed red that I will sell for $90. I don't have any wheel hop, so I don't have any motivation to install them.

Wheel hop may have cracked your diff and then the hard launch finished the job.

If you plan to drag race, you are probably better off upgrading to the Kazz so that you don't just keep breaking the diff.

Yep sounds to me like the differential broke(but you probably already knew this). Take Maxcooper's advice to try and help get rid of wheel hop.

Buy the Pettit launch kit @ around $250. That cuts down on wheelhop with your street tires.

To eliminate wheel hop, by a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets to use for the drag strip. They are bias belted and so they wrinkle at launch, absorbing some of the shock when the clutch is popped. Zero wheel hop, less stress on the rear.
