random thought: Motorex
i was just catching up on news on the site (schoolwork has been bogging me down), and i was wondering, has anyone ever contacted Motorex about importing a complete 7 from japan and having them outfit it with all the proper equipment to make it road legal? there must be a ton of FD's sitting in japanese boneyards, because of how hard it is to get japanses compulusary (sp) insurance. aren't the front clips/japanese motors from boneyards and confiscated illegally imported cars that were caught at port, or am i just talking out of my *** here?
and on the motorex idea, if they won't do it, i'm sure that there are some members of the forum that own businesses that could easily do all the testing/outfitting in-house, but i assume the problem with this is getting a license from the US government to actually do this legally.

I believe motorex was actually shut down because they were cutting corners in making skylines legal. Not exactly sure, but almost certain they dont do that anymore. I'm sure someone else knows, so go on a chime in.

It's not just "outfitting" a newer RX-7, they also have to be crash tested. I doubt Motorex is going to shell out the money to crash test RX-7's to start legally importing those (as they did with the Skyline).
After crash testing a few RX-7's, the price of bring one over is going to be just as expensive as the Skylines (if not more). Just not a market for it. People complain now about paying $15,000 for a decent RX-7.

sorry for not searching, i had to run to turn in an assignment before 5pm, so i just posted it real quick. i thought motorex stopped importing new skylines because they are now out of production, but they still import older ones. i may be mistaken, i'll check their website for more info. thanks for the info guys.

Yeah, my friend imported a Skyline Nur Edition through motorex. He drove it around with dealer plates for almost two years while Motorex tried to legalize it. They ran into big problems with California. My friend ended up selling the car for more than he paid for it to a guy in Wisconsin. So I guess it's all good.
Trust me it's a nightmare trying to legalize a vehicle in most states. Just get a US Spec FD and put all the J-spec parts your heart desires onto it and fully restore the car. You'll save money and have a car you won't have problem registering.
