Racing Beat presilencer
Anyone else have one of these?
Anyone else call it a presilencer? I assume its the same as a resonator. I got the larger one this past week at Racing Beat, have yet to get it to a shop to make sure it will work. It looks like it will fit though.

If you wouldn't mind posting back once you have it installed and let us know how it changes the sound of your car. I'd be interested to know; I've got a RB 304 dual tip, and I thing is LOUD - the previous owner installed it without a silencer/pre-silencer (are they called something else?).

I'm running one. It'll take out some of the raspiness and droning. It depends on what catback you are running. When I ran it with an N1, it helped with the raspiness but wasstill loud as hell. I really don't know what my current greedy sp would sound without it. I like how the car sounds just enough rumble. I don't think you can ever get it quiet like the 2nd gen RB setup, which is what I was hoping for initially.

That's what we call a resonator.... a lot of the result will depend where in the system you place it. I have a similar one just behind the cat (next to the diff) and it really helps control the drone. I built one into the downpipe which helps takes the edge off of the exhaust note, and gives it a more pleasing "singing" tone.

The presilencer got placed in the mid section using the existing 3 inch diameter midpipe I already had. It took the guy about 40 minutes to get it in, not too bad. I am running an older RacingBeat dual exhaust, ie the tips are not rounded off. I am not sure how old that would make it.
The car, at idle is about 30% quieter and the tone is less tin-y. The biggest difference is during acceleration. I'd say the noise has been reduced about 50%.
I was waiting hoping I could get a video up but I will have to wait until the weekend.

I do appreciate the honest answer. As long as it doesn't create a very noticeable difference, I think the decrease in volume and tone would be worth it. I will probably try it out someday.

FINALLY, here is a clip of the sound. I used mdpalmer's car for comparison.
