I wish I could have the sound of the stock exhaust with the flow of the RB dual tip.

I love that sound, I will sometimes just rev a bit and it sounds like a CarraraGT to me. Beautiful and clean sound.

My friend commented a couple nights ago when we were caravaning around town.(94' RX-7, 82' Delorean, and 02' GT Mustang) He was in-front of me and said when I was accelerating and just reving that all he could hear was my turbos and that it was music to his ears.

I will most likely go RB dual tip as it seems to be the quietest of the aftermarket exhaust but I'll never be as happy as I would with the stock sound. As said before though, flow is everything.

It really depends on the setup. I'm running a DP, Bonez Hi-Flo and the Greddy PE with sequential twins. My buddy is running DP, Res MP and Racing Beat Duals but non-seq. His setup was a LOT louder than mine. However, switching a Greddy PE onto his setup would have made him even louder.

I can understand how setups vary. I've got a wrapped DP, Bonez Hi-Flo and the Greddy SP. Around town I love the sound. Not too harsh, a bit on the low-frequency side and definitely non-rice sounding. When on the throttle, it brings a smile to my face. But while cruising on the highway/interstate, it will just wear you out. You find yourself shouting at anyone in the car with you. Since I can't afford to change cat-back right now, I'm going to try some sound insulation in the back (B-quiet, Roadkill etc.), especially in that expansion chamber called a spare tire well. Hopefully that will help.

Question

Hm, I always thought with the stock exhaust the FD sounded like a sewing machine. You guys are comparing it to the carrera gt?

I have a dp, resonated mp, and dual tip catback all from Pettit Racing. I've heard that the Pettit dual tip is the same as the RB but I honestly dont know for sure. Either way, it sounds really good. If I'm missing a little power I dont care, cause at least I can hear my stereo and talk to people without yelling. Most people hate taking long trips in thier FD when they have super loud exhausts, it'll give you real bad headachs and make your ears ring. I love taking trips in mine

They don't. Since it's usually a modification that doesn't affect emissions in any appreciable way, they basically ignore them. They're only subject to the noise limitations imposed by local law enforcement.

Otherwise, you'd have this happening:

Nice lady: So this new muffler is legal, right muffler shop guy?
Muffler shop guy: That's a tuffy...

I too have the RB dual, Pettit downpipe and stock main cat. I have a high-flow cat but haven't put it on. With this setup the car sounds really nice, in my opinion.

I wasn't suggesting reverting back... just agreeing that having a quiet car certainly has its perks on a street car.
