Race fuel????????????

I posed this in the single turbo section as well but maybe one of you guys will know.

I am planning on running some higher octane fuel at the track this summer. I have a oil company near me that carries 100-octane low lead fuel, this fuel is only .05% lead. My question for you guys is this. I have a high-flow cat in my car so I don't want to run the full race fuel (110) that I can get here because I don't want to clog the cat. But is only .05% lead still too much to run

If it is ok to run with that little bit of lead in it, then at what point does a fuel have too much lead content and will start to cause damage.

Thanks

***Use common sense when reading the following***
***I am not responsible for what you do***
***Use in well ventilated areas (xylene, toluene, any organic compound), wear both eye protection and wear gloves to keep compounds off your skin***

***If I am crazy disregard anything that follows, but it works***

***Take any solution you make and get it checked out at your local university, they will tell you the octane rating of what you have made***

Funny you should mention this because a friend and I just bought some xylene to make some "race gas" for his turbocharged 3400 Fiero (it is sooooooo fast btw)

Make your own high octane gas.

Xylene has an octane rating of 117.

Xylene Forumla

Xylene Final Octane
5% 93.25
10% 94.5
15% 95.75
20% 97
25% 98.25
30% 99.5

Final octane = ((percentage of xylene*117)+(percentage 92 octane fuel*92))

Xylene is the main ingredient in octane booster. Some octane boosters use toluene as well. (which is more dangerous than xylene but cheaper )

You can get xylene at any paint shop. 55 gallons is very cheap, but we have not gotten to that step yet.

5 gallons is quite cheap.

After doing all the math to make 98 octane (25% xylene + 75% 92 octane) works out to in Canadian funds $1.10/L versus $0.74/L, but is still much cheaper than "race gas" from the track or airport, and the benefit is that it contains no lead. If you use the price of a 55 gallon drum then the cost is about $0.85/L or just over 10% more in cost for quite a big jump in octane rating.

The GN guys have been doing this for a while, and the head chemist in our lab says it works (from personal experience racing high compression british race cars).

I normally use premium (which is 92 octane), but will mix up a batch (maybe 5 gallons) for the track when I bump up the boost.

Will xylene or toluene take paint off or anything liek that if I accidently spill a little while putting it in?

Are there any determental effects to running 20%-30% xylene or toluene all the time?

Best we can get here is 91 octane

I found this to be rather interesting. I looks like you would only need to add an ounce of this stuff or so. Much easier to carry in the trunk than gallons of xylene or toulene. Read up about it and see what you think.

Mix it before you put it in.

Or be very careful.

Xylene is industrial strength paint thinner.

It is sold under the name Xylol at the local paint shop. It is 99.9% xylene with <0.1% derivatives of xylene. There is no -oh group attached to any of the derivatives.

It will eat the paint off your car without any difficulty. j/k I am not sure if it would get through the clear coat, but I mix all of mine in a 5 gallon jerry can before adding it to the car.

VP C-16 all the way baby!!!!!!!

Just mix to make a 1/2&1/2 mix with your normal gas. So big deal it's leaded. I used to run it on the street all the time.

Kinda smells funny and it makes the inside of your exhaust turn brown but it's worth it...
