The apexi ATS (active tail silencer) did wonders to silence my car. Expensive but if it ever broke on me, I'd buy another one.

http://apexi-usa.com/shop/index.php/...-silencer.html

I tried for 2 years to make the car quiet, including a custom dual-inline magnaflow muffler (two mufflers one before the other). It still wasn't quiet and it killed my hp.

Not sure if the ATS is reducing power much but my butt dyno says it's not that far off. I take it off when I'm at the track and noise doesn't matter (its stupid loud at the track lol)

^ I would have liked to have gone the ECV route, but it would not pass the required test as its adjustable without the use of hand tools.
Thats where I got the idea for the restriction plate though. I figured if sheer restriction works for the ECV it should work this way also. Im happy that i did what i did though, because now i have a full 80mm exhaust system (thats legal as far as anyone can tell), with only a single resonator and a trust muffler in the entire system.

Another guy showed up in a bridgeported rx3 while I was there, he had just come from an exhaust shop getting a couple more resonators welded into his system.
Poor guy had no chance of passing considering mine is almost silent now and only just passed. He had just spent about $500, his exhaust system was now full of mufflers and he still had basically no chance of passing.

He was happy to hear what i had done to mine because it gave him hope of a fix without spending alot more money getting heaps of crap permanantly welded into his exhaust system that he didnt want.

Seriously, it is no big deal to undo two bolts and slide a plate in between the joints and tighten it up. You dont even need to take the exhaust off to do it..its literally two bolts, its free, it sure as hell works, and best of all - they cannot draw it into the exhaust diagram.

I could post some pics of it once iv taken it out if anyone cares, although its easy to imagine what it is...it does the job though!

96fd3s I had no idea it was like that over there lol.

I mean drawing a diagram so you can't change it? Pretty smart but scary. I hope they don't bring that system over to the states.

To the other guy, 240 bucks for a silencer that will only work with apexi exhausts. Might as well go daleclark's route or to the least, an electric cut out. I hate the way those silencers look. Like a whistle. What happens when you wanna play a little bit? You pull over to unbolt the thing then go?

I wonder how many db rx7store resonated midpipe and RB dual muffler combo give. They seem to make the RX7 reasonably quiet whether used with stock twins or single turbo.

I've been trying to quiet down my FD but I didn't want to go the silencer route. Has anyone referenced the in-pipe mechanical cutouts yet? I know Dale Clark had a pretty good review on these recently...

I've got the rx7store.com resonated midpipe installed on my 20B and its fantastic. The magnaflow muffler in it really does a great job of eliminating the "drone" we all hear when driving. I can now carry on a conversation in the car without problems and my ears don't ring when I get out. It's the best thing I have tested that has actually reduced the noise of the exhaust. FYI - had the Pettit resonated one on the car and the only thing it did was make the noise louder. I also tested about 1/2 dozen exhausts (Pettit Racing was gracious enough to let me try a bunch) and I ended up with a Greddy. Under WOT there doesn't seem to be a difference in sound level, just under normal driving conditions. I like it this way.

Tom, I had an electrical cutout installed in the car a few years ago and it did nothing to quiet the car. So when driving the noise level was the same but when it opened, get out of the way crazy load noise as the car bypassed the exhaust.

My advice to quiet down the car is to use the rx7store resonated midpipe and then to QuietCoat (http://www.quietrock.com/soundproof-...quietcoat.html) the car. A great combo. Dramatically reduces the noise level and makes your doors sound solid when closing.
