My GF and I both use Zaino. Works great if applied correctly. If your car is white or silver (like hers), it's a little harder to get it on evenly, but it defintely works.

Once a month at most. A complete strip/clay/polish/wax/wax/wax about every quarter (in fact, I just got done with my quarterly detail.

It's usually not good to keep layers waxes on top of each other. Most carnuabas will start to yellow when layered like that, plus any imperfections in one layer will be transferred to the next layer, and so on..so in the end, you have 4 layers of imperfections on top of each other. If you are going to layer waxes (for depth and reflectivity) apply them in succession, one right after the other.

Plus, the wax I use is entirely too expensive to be waxing every 2 weeks.

mightyslash, what kind of wax are you using?

You should NEVER wash your car with dishsoap. The detergent strips your paint of oils. JEEESHH. Go buy some car wash (Maguiar's, Mothers, whatever) that is designed to clean CARS. Any competent detailer will tell you the same thing.

The problem with car washes is that it doesn't take the wax off. That's the point of the dish soap. It isn't something you should do very often. Heck, once a year is pushing it.

screw waxing.... use a polish

Three or four times a year.
Guys.... seriously, waxing is such a pain in the ***. I've gotten BETTER and more consistent results from Zaino polish. It is also about ten times easier to use and lasts a ridiculous amount of time.

I only reapply the polish itself twice a year, but I use the detailer spray (Z6 I think) after every wash. People have told me that my car shines like new, even though the paint is 8 years old and damaged. See pix in my sig.

Scott

p.s. added benefit: if you have any questions about Zaino polish the friggin owner of the company - Sal Zaino - will call you back to answer them.

Zaino is great, I'll give it that.. Easy to apply, lasts a long time, isn't too expensive..

But it just doesn't give the depth, clarity, and reflectivity that a good carnuaba will give you. One coat of Blitz wax from One grand, and 1 coat of Pinnacle Souveran (the waxes I have, though I haven't had a chance to give the Sourveran a try yet) will give you unreal results. Like someone poured a layer of glass all over your car.

I wish I could find you some pictures.

All cars have clear coats of one kind or another, unless it's matte.
not sure about the seven, but I know many cars coem without clear coats. such as lamborgini, even volvo didn;t use too. Rolls Royce, etc.
With no clear-coat a better shine is possible, however it is much mroe work. a clear-coat looks half-*** all the time. regular can look great, and look terrible. That is why some high end cars don't have it. I am not some body shop guy, but I think I read it somewhere.

cheers

I now use Zanio and wax the same time each year (Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day and Thanksgiving). I am the original owner 93 FD in Silver and the paint looks new. As for Rain-X best stuff for under $3.00 and apply when I wax. I read and heard about not using dish detergent for cars, but I use maybe 2 drops and rinse the car throughly.

I wash with Turtle Wax car wash every week or 2, depending on how dusty it is out here. Then I wax about twice a year. No specific dates, you can just look at it and tell if it needs wax and polish again. I do the MacGuires 3 Step, it is a pain in the *** but the car sure looks great afterward!

Polishing compud usually has a grit to it (kinda like sand paper). Thing is about this grit is that it is in the thousands say 1600 to 2000 grit... this will give whatever is on your car a scrubbing releaving it of its impurtities. Wax on the other hand is a new layer of protectant that absorbs some of the sun and also makes her shine like new . I used to use Rain-x on my 3000gt and my Celica... but as of right now I'm either using regular turtle wax or the new colored stuff that turtle wax put out so I can try and fill a few scratches... It didn't work as well as planned but it helped. The rain-x stuff is great if it rains alot where you are say.... washington but since I'm down where it never rains... S/Texas I use Turtle Wax... I guess since they know their $hit.

every 1-2 weeks. I use a German polish called Klasse. I used to use Zaino but got better results from the Klasse.

I don't blame ya, it's good stuff. Most people are so deadset on Zaino because they haven't tried any of the high qualtiy stuff, They are just comparing Zaino to Meguiars, Turtle Wax and Mothers (I think anyways..:P )

Martini- Wow not too many people know about Klasse. What do you use? I used to detail on the side when I was in HS so I used to talk to the guys and find out who their suppliers were.

I've toned down a bit...I used to buy stuff in bulk. I used to use a lot of Malco products for a while. Mostly industrial stuff really good though. They had a product called the rejuvinator which was the best thing for small scratches and inperfections. Kinda kicking myself. The last time I moved I lost one of my address books had all my "car wax" contacts in there.
