how much vacuum should you pull at idle and when you are slowing down?

It will very with mods. Are you talking about slowing down with the car in gear or just in neutral and braking while the engine it at idle?

At idle at a stop my car pulls about 450mmhg and when slowing down itll spike up to like 600 and then settle back down as I slow down.

On a Power FC, you should see from -600 to -650 mm Hg, when your rpms are around 3-4000 and you let off the throttle.

my gauge is in In. Hg

im getting 20-21 slowing down from 3-4000 rpms
and at idle im getting 10-12

so is that low, my friends Fc is pegging the gauge at 30 slowing down and is getting 17-20 at idle

my friend asked me if i had low compression, but i dont think so, the motor has <20,000 miles on it.

im at least 28 slowing down or more and with my idle at 600 or w/ accessories on i pull 15-16 with accessories off the idle is more around 800 and pulls 18/19/...when engine is cold at 1200rpms it pulls even 19

hmm, then why would mine be so low?

its been that way since i got the car, and the car had 7000 miles on a brand new motor and was seldom driven for 3 years.

i figure its about the time to do a compression test again, but i did one when i got the car and it was perfect.
where should the compression be again?

My gauge is also In. Hg.

I see 19 in. at idle and 28 in. slowing down on an 80F degree day in Oregon. We are at sea level. FD has less than 28K.

you may be higher than sea level..i am a little high i live in alabama its a bit higher ur ears pop up where i live and im assuming this reduces my vac a little...check your vac hoses for leaks, if they r fine and ur compression is good and the car pulls/boosts fine then ur good to go don't worry bout it so much..i would do a comp. test just for the peace of mind

hmmm i dont think nebraska is to far above sea level...

idk, i will do a compression check pretty soon then...
