I might just be lucky.. but I just do basic maintenance on the car like oil changes every 2500.. random oil/coolant level checking.. not anything too serious. The only problem I've had in 5 months of daily driving is my cruise stopped working. I guess I got a good one?

Mine is now modded alittle (dp, high flow, CB, ECU) but before and now I just mostly do the routine maintenence. Oil about every other month, check other fluids, plugs 1-2 times a year. I also spend alot of time just checking things out so I dont have problems later down the road. In the average month I probably spend about 8 hours under the hood or under the car. The first month I had the car my primary turbo went out, $250 for a used set and 15 hours of work later it ran like a champ. That is the only real problem I have had in 2 years and 30k miles of daily driving. High milage but I bought the car so I could drive it.

Ditto with me, oil change and basic maint (new brake pads, 75k & 90k).

I did spend $1300 on changing exhaust gasket, fuel pulsation damper, thermostat, radiator hoses last year. This was to correct the high idle and for preventive maint. The car purrs like a kitten now.

This is over the 3 yrs that I have owned my FD. Not bad averaging about $500/yr on repairs and maint. It would have been much lower if I didn't spend $1300 in repairs last year.

However, I only put about 5000 mi each year. If you put more miles, you'll get more wear for sure.

I would probably say about like 12 hrs or so a month of maintenance. Washing the car, checking fluid levels, changing oil. Right now my biggest recent purchase is that I just bought some new tires since mine were bald.
The only other real problem i have is that i have an oil leak, thank god that it isnt from the turbos but a leak is present

Don't do much. No time. Basic stuff. I've put 10k on it since I bought it in Jan. 40 mile per day commute. But now boost is not working right. Hopefully will get time to fix it over the holidays.

Oil change when necessary, check oil every (or every other) time I drive it, check coolant every 2nd or 3rd time. Change air filter when it's dirty. Prettty basic, but mine isn't driven all that much right now.

Check out http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/reliability.html to answer you question.

Basically, get a better radiator, a downpipe(adds quite a few horsepower while keeping your engine bay cooler), an aftermarket AST, and perform the vacuum hose mod.

Don't forget to make sure that all of your recalls have been done. If you're really paranoid, you might even have some of the fuel related work re-done just to make sure that it's all good. Replacing the injector o-rings isn't a bad idea, and replace your fuel filter (not a mod, but gets forgotten a lot).

I bought my car when it had ca 7k stock km on it and i've driven it pretty hard for about 600 km this summer and i only done regular maintenance.

I don't think a rotary is easier to break than a Otto. All engines needs proper maintenance.
Although our turbosystem isnt the greatest and that is probably what causes damage to the engine.
