Question about FD Rx7, problems, how to fix, what to look for etc..
If this is wrong section I apologize, i searched all the other ones and this one seemed best fit.
So its a 1994 FD for sale
single t3 turbo
fmic
a/c delete
greddy bov
apexi fc commander
wideband
runs really rich he says
97,000 miles
mild port on rebuild
Price is a good price on it
Would it be something worth getting if i want an rx7 to be a daily driver? how much work would need to be done to get it to run the right way?
Is it something I will get and it be a complete POS and fall apart or take it to a shop and they just say it needs one of everything before itll run the way it should
i know a lot of it is hard to tell, but just throw me some questions to ask the guy, what to look for etc.

The FD can be a reliable DD if you know what you are doing with the cars!
The only problem you would run into is that there are not that many people around that really know what they are doing. You could not just take it to some random mechanic shop and expect them to know what to fix.
Depending on what part of TN you are from you may be in luck as there are 2 or 3 people who could help you out

I once wondered the same thing. I currently have been daily driving my 7 for almost a year now. Granted I can't really qualify it as true daily driving as it takes me four minutes to drive to work. Do I like DD'ing my 7? Absolutely not. I hate putting the miles on it, I hate having to climb into and out of it, I hate the gas mileage, I hate worrying about ensuring its running by Monday if I break it out for some maintenance on Friday. Parts are expensive, especially the ones that are easy to break. I do not recommend this kind of car to a novice mechanic either. If you can't identify things like detonation, ignition break up, or if you don't inspect your own work, it's easy for this car to bite you for a rebuild. I am overtly careful with my 7 though.
This forum has endless amounts of information. Search and you can find your answers. I personally would not buy someone's unfinished project. Especially because you can't vouch for how well the work was done.

They are fine for a daily with all the proper mods and maintenance. I drive my FD every chance I get when Im not traveling and the weather is nice. If it is like most FDs that are heavily modded it was probably slapped together by some DIY guy and never tuned or done correctly. I wouuldnt just pick up a singled FD and expect it to be a good DD without expecting to spend a pretty penny getting it where it needs to be.
Those who are afraid to DD a FD, either learn how properly modify/recondition one or take it to a good shop. I dont know how many times I tell this to newbies in the rotary scene but "A fuel injector is a fuel injector, and alternator an alternator, just because it is attached to a rotary makes it no different. It is still simple mechanics at the end of the day."

I drive mine daily and love it. Even with the A/C currently deleted (not for long), it's a true joy to drive. Yeah it can be rough sometimes, and it's a little picky, but overall, she is a great car. If you can get the car at a good price, and I mean like five to six grand, and you are willing to put another five grand into it, you'll have a great car. Be prepared to spend money. It's an rx-7. Honestly...... if you're trying to buy an FD as a toy and a daily, thats a bad call.
I've never modded my FD, but I had plans to do so since I have a 2nd car that I can always rely on...... So i'll never feel rushed if I started tearing into her.... which is when most mistakes when modding ANY car happens.
Its kind of the unwritten rule when you have an FD..... the first mod you ever make is to make sure have a 2nd car.
Seriously.... unless you have a 2nd car that is reliable, dont waste your time.
Another thing is that I would NEVER buy a modded FD..... because that raises the red flag to most people that you KNOW the car was built to be used and abused especially when you dont know the owner of the vehicle, and its a ticking time-bomb to a blow motor regardless how careful the new owner has been with the car..... Sellers can always say this or that about how they've always babied it etc etc..... unless the car was built right and it looks clean in the engine bay with no wires running all over the place and under the dash, I wouldn't bat an eye lash to it, no matter how attractive the price is.
