TpCpLaYa, that pic has got to be photoshopped. Just look at the mazda lettering. And diablone, isn't thta the pic from 7-sins poster, photoshopped also?
Anyway, it comes down to this. Much easier to build a touring to R1 standards than to take an R1 and make it touring, for the simple fact of the sunroof. Targa on an FD, while sounding awesome, would not be worth the cost or effort. period. Yes, the key factor is structural integrity.

If you're hell bent to have a sunroof in this particular car, then screw the aftermarket install, and have the entire roof cut off and replaced with a sunroof equipped factory roof. Probably readily available from a Mazda specialty wrecking yard.

With the roof off of the car, I can now stand inside of it on jackstands & make the center bend and bounce by jumping. Makes you wonder how much bracing they needed to do in the convertables.

sean dont do it!! it is an R1!! people would die for an R1.. BTW TJ in our car club has an aftermarket sun roof you have not met him yet but it looks o.k. but it had the real fd sunroof and the owner before he got the car had a body shop put in a glass one!! that just sucks but again dont CUT her !!!!!!!!!!!!
