Purchase - how much is it worth?
Have an 87 tii. Found a 94 fd, silver, 38k miles, stock with factory spoiler. Good condition from pics, haven't seen yet. How much would you pay/estimate sale value?
Thanks

Ugh, I'm at work, busy, typing on an almost dead phone, and I need to make a quick decision to buy this car or not. There's no non-technical forum for third gens, and I'm not buying or selling something, why not be helpful be direct me to the correct forum if you have too much troble to answer a simple question. Guess the third gen forum is full of more and even cockier people than the 2nd gen forum?

There's not much info to go on. Original engine with 38k miles? Auto or 5 spd? Touring or R2? FD prices seem to be all over the place these days. Anywhere from $8-14k. Without seeing the car and knowing if there's any problems that's about as close of a ballpark you can get imo.

Thanks guys.
The guy selling already took down the CL post (not that it was very detailed), there were a few inquiries, and I can make a move on it if I chose to. I am going to see and test drive it tommorow and will have to make a decision pretty quick.
I am not too familiar with FDs, is there anyway to tell which model it is via the exterior? It is a 5spd, black leather interior, and I believe the guy mentioned premium sound, I am not sure.
Here's a pic of the back end if it helps at all. The front end has no real lip, just a thin black plastic trim lip.

It's the PEP model (similar to the Touring model from 93, but has textured interior plastics with better scratch resistance)- Bose system, rear wiper, leather, moonroof, and no front lip. The rear spoiler was most likely a dealer installed option. The exhaust looks aftermarket- maybe PFS or Racing Beat single tip.

Ahh yes PEP not Touring for 94. Anyway, looking at the pic, it looks pretty clean. I don't know what FD's range on your side of the country but here it would go for maybe $12k, assuming th interior is clean too. (No seat tears, big scratches, etc.)

Not more than 13 or 14k the age of the 17k FD is gone and won't be back for a long time unless it's a collector type car and this one isn't.
Good luck
PS take your time and look around at various FDs for sale because every week I see another super good deal and they keep getting better.
PSS also MA cars usually aren't a good idea

I'd buy the car above at 14k before the SSM car and it's also in MA.
I think his best offer at this time is 13k so 13,500 may get it done.

Judging from the posts I can say that I am getting a very good deal on it (low end of what people posted, IMO this purchase almost feels like theft). I went to test drive today, and it was a dream to drive. The car is in much better condition than I thought, car was owned previously by a airplane mechanic. The engine bay is shockingly spotless, I could eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner off it no problem.
Interior consoles impeccable, the seats are in good condition as well, except for standard creases and some rubbing off of the leather on a small section of the driver's seat. I'm still thinking it may be worth the investment to get the seats reupholstered to really give that brand new interior look.
Overall I am very pleased, and if things go accordingly, I will put a down payment on it tomorrow. At that point, I will take the car to a nearby shop that has experience working with rotaries and have them do a quick inspection and compression test to see if everything is in spec.
Thanks for the help everyone.
P.S.
This FD will be a nice addition, keeping the miles off my 18k 87 TII

I would not worry about recovering the seats unless they are in terrible shape but it sounds like they're pretty good. Save your money in case you want to do some reliability modifications or have an unexpected repair. There could be plenty of things a car that age could need even though it's in good shape.
For some perspective I bought my 93 touring 5-spd for $12,500 in Oct. 09 also with 38k miles. Completly stock, owned by an airline pilot since 95, every receipt, oil changed each 1500 miles. Original engine, clutch brakes with new tires. USAA said it was worth 14k in the TX insurance market.

Paid $7500 for my 93 SSM with 125k miles and 200 miles on a new motor. Included several upgrades and black interior overall in good condition.
Just food for thought. Also bought my parts FD with a trashed exterior but mint interior + engine for $500 (not a typo).

Whatever sports car you own drive the damn thing because that's where the cost of owning it pays off.
Finally it's tuff to buy one of these cars stock unless it's a super good deal and the car has very low miles (which this car seems to be) because they require so many expensive parts to run well and stay reliable when driven hard.
It sounds like you found a good one and are paying a fair price, congrats

FWIW BrianS is selling a 93 ssm silver base w/about 90k miles for around 14k with lots of nice mods and a fresh engine. Just another one of those good deals that are floating about. This car will have no suprises as Brian is a 110% car guy.

Ugh...so the car was sold, the going price was 10k. I offered the guy 12k the day before it sold, however he had a verbal agreement with another guy and decided to honor it. The irony is that the person who bought the car is a auto seller who's planning to ship the car to Florida on Monday and sell it there. I talked with him for a bit, he wants 13k for it, I talked him down to 12,750, hoping for 12,500.
I honestly don't know what to do. I still think it's somewhat worth it because of the great condition it's in, and was thinking I'd still go ahead. But on second thought, at that price the car is in similar territory as a similar mileage RX-8 (for instance a loaded 04 with 17k miles for 14,750k) which I'd have less problems with due to age. Of course, they are very different cars...
This week has been so stressful and I need to make the decision by Saturday :/
