profec b problem

I just installed an original profec b with the 3 *****. The problem is that when my second turbo comes online it wont boost back up to 10 it stays at 8 and around 6k rpm it drops down even more. I have it on the overboost setting, and have messed around with the other controls but I cant get it right. I inatalled the profec because i was getting 11.5 -9-11.5 boost pattern I was hoping that the profec would fix that but instead this happened PLEASE HELP ME!! My mods at the moment are just a CB some guages and the profec b

First of all, you need to relax and focus on the problem.

How is the profec adjusted? What adjustments have you tried? Do you have the 4 DIP switches on the back set correctly?

i have the four dip switches set to the overboost pattern that was in the manual. as for the adjustments i have the balance set all the way sharp, and i have the HI boost setting turned all the way down, and low boost setting i had it a little over half way up.

Why do you have the DIP switches set to the overboost setting? Set them to the normal position. Then you need to spend some time adjusting the balance control. Turning it all the way to sharp is not desirable, I can tell you that. I would start at about the middle position.

Do a search using Profec and my username. I've written a good tuning procedure for the profec B in the past.

I get the same problem. I just know the problem is with the damn Balance ****. I know If i turn it all the way to sharp it will give me same problem. However if I turn it all the way to mild, it holds kind of, but it still drops a pound of boost.

So the problem is abvious. I just don't know how to adjust the balance **** to have it correctly.

By the way, how did you hook up yours? Just to the wastegate or wastegate and pre-control.

My Profec is setup the way it's supposed to be: wastegate only. My boost rolls off a psi after about 7k rpm or so, I contribute that to still running the stock main cat with 78k on it.

Since I couldn't find my own thread, I've posted a tuning guide below:

Tuning the Profec B

1. Make sure Profec is properly installed.
2. Make sure DIP switches on back of Profec are set to normal position.
3. Turn both boost ***** to minimum.
4. Do a 3rd gear run with the Profec OFF to verify that boost is at 7-8 psi.
5. Turn Profec back ON and adjust Balance **** to about midway.
6. Do a 3rd gear run with the Profec ON to verify proper operation.
7. SLOWLY raise the LO boost setting **** until you are achieving 10 psi.
8. Tune the Balance setting: You want the Balance as far towards Sharp as you can get without getting unstable boost. When you adjust it too far towards Sharp, you will see your boost waver around your target instead of holding steady. BE CAREFUL -- When you adjust the Balance ****, it also changes the boost level you are hitting. Turning Balance to Sharp should reduce boost level.
9. Once the Balance control is tuned, readjust the LO boost **** to achieve target boost. Do a run in 4th gear if possible (be careful!) and also check 5th gear primary response (go 75 mph up a long hill in 5th) to make sure you won't overboost in the higher gears.
10. Tune the HI boost setting the same way. Be careful, as the HI boost **** is set to produce about 3 psi more than the LO **** at the same position.
11. Remember not to tune for above 10 psi if you are still running the stock ecu. Don't tune above 13-14 psi unless you have an upgraded fuel system.
12. You are done! Enjoy your boost controller!
