Question PowerFlex steering rack bushing help

I have finally reinstalled all my control arms with new bushings and the final bushings I have to install are the steering rack bushings.

I cannot get the driver side bushing to fit aound the rack and meet its other half. I figured I could tighten the mount down and it would solve the problem but the bolts are not long enough to reach the rack mount.

I have searched and found this thread with what seems to be the same problem but no follow up on a solution,https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/steering-rack-bush-size-933776/.

I am looking for advice from others who have had this issue while installing these bushings.

Thanks

I gave it another shot today and got the mount bolted down but the bushing still was not seated correctly. The first two pictures are without it bolted down and the last is bolted down. I only tightened the mount down about halfway but the bushing still had a 1 inch gap in it.

I think the main problem is that PowerFlex did not consider that force would be applied from the top and put the seam of the bushing somewhere other than the bottom.

Simple fix. See my thread here.

Basically the rack is machined to accepted rounded edges on the bushings. The powerflex has squared edges thus take a dremel and round them off to mimic the factory bushing. Rounding the edges that mate to the rack give it that extra bit it needs to fit perfectly.

Thanks for the info. I was actually told the same thing by my supplier last night. I was going to use a utility knife but a dremel is a much better idea.
