Agentspeed did a setup using an inline transmission cooler. He posted his writeup on the nopistons forum here:

I'm still considering this b/c I have the same problem with my lowered car and the v-mount setup

I don't think anyone EVER has performance or longevity problems with their power steering system. So what would an aftermarket ps cooler do for you?

Just because it's differant, doesn't make it better.

Since we're on this topic, can someone please post a pic of what the stock power steering oil cooler lines look like?
I'm got a FMIC that I'm removing and want to revert to the stock lines if I can identify them in the pile of odd looking parts that I have.
Thanks.

Looks to me like your just looking to add more CRAP to your sig.

On other cars, perhaps it's more of an issue. Comparing to other cars is always apples and oranges; I should not need to explain that.

Seeing that I am totally ignorant to "what power steering fluid does" , would you be so as kind to explain it to me ? and at the same time would you explain why "On other cars, perhaps it's more of an issue. " , 'cause me with my limited knowledge about power steering fluid just cant see ANY difference what so ever in a standard power assisted steering system wheather its on a Mazda, BMW , Jaguar or a Datsun ! in fact I think the rotary shoild have the better cooler because of the extreme underhood temps ! , but what de hell do I know ?

For me it would be worthwhile to replace it with something more compact so I could clean up the duct work in front of the radiator a bit. Also most of the original stock units I have seen recently look like they came out of the bottom of a creek. Not exactly the nicest thing to see when looking at the front of the car. I think this topic has some value.

My point is that so far is absolutely no reason has been presented to believe the end result will be better. Decisions based on reasoning indicate understanding.
Those loop type cooler lines are durable and lightweight. You can mash them up and they still won't leak until they are actually bent and pinched. I would not install something more heavy, expensive, with more connections, and less durable.
By all means you can install whatever you want. But it won't make a difference, IMO.

when i made the v-mount i used a stock FD automatic transmission cooler and mounted it on the right side vent since i only have one cooler for the engine, almost a year and a half and no problems since.

I suppose that length of hard tubing you posted was the P/S cooler? It just looks like some hard lines which I suppose act as a cooling mechanism.
Mine are floating around over the under tray. That is where the previous owner's mechanics left them...
If I can't easily figure it out, I'll spend the coin on a cheap cooler from Summit and run my own lines along with the custom vmount I hope to install in the next month.

Spending 60 or even 100 dollars on a good cooler is a lot cheaper than replacing or servicing the power stering rack , in my humble opinion .

Im sorry but yes it would be completely pointless, the only real reason i could possibly see for this would be if you absolutly could not source the stock parts needed for this, otherwise you are wasting your money and weighing down your car.
if it was truly a problem youd see posts every so often about overheated ps pumps. i say put it back to stock or pull the useless ps anyway (how often do you parrallel park your 7 anyway)
but by all means dont mind me and do it anyway to prove you can

The CF-body www.7parts.com racecar used a PS cooler. He was running very wide tires, and autocrossing requires a constant flurry of steering inputs. I never thought to ask exactly what made him decide to install an aftermarket cooler. He was adding hundreds of pounds of ballast to meet the minimum weight requirements for the class, so I'm sure he wasn't concerned about the weight of the system.
Here's a photo:
I agree with dgeesaman: I've never seen or heard any indication that the OEM cooler needs to be upgraded for reasons other than wanting to fill that space with something else (radiator, FMIC, etc...)
