Question Power pulley mod adversely affect A/C?

I live in FL where we test the limits of our air conditioners daily. My '93's A/C does a fair job for a 9 year old car. I've often wondered if the power pulley kits that claim to underdrive engine-driven accessories by 25% for a 10 hp gain adversely affect the A/C output/efficiency - Rick.

hrrrmmm, hopefully you can get someone in here that has experience with the puley and heat.
But theortetically you shouldn't notice. The A/C compressor is on a clutching on/ff switch, so it should just switch on more often for longer periods of time (being it takes longer to compress the same amount at a slower speed).

I live in Houston and have the single power pulley from Ray. My AC works fine in my almost 10 year car.

My Experience With Pulley / AC

I got my pulley installed by Pettit 2 yrs ago when most of the engine work was done (see sig.) and have not noticed any difference in the A/C. I had the same question before getting mine done and was assured I wouldn't notice any difference. I suppose that, in theory, the difference in the pulleys will cause it to cycle more often and maybe wear out the clutch more, if everything else were equal, but if you think about it, some people drive around in 4th gear in town and we all shift at different points / drive differently and those things affect engine rpm's, so the pulley size is just another among several variables that can impact the speed the compressor turns in the AC. I don't think it is a significant issue.

a bit off tipic here but good advice to anyone with AC problems..... DO NOT... DO NOT upgrade your A/C to r134a if you have R12. R134a is only 60% as efficent. running it through our smaller condensors and evaporators designed for r12, will only have 60% the cooling effect. It is worth it if you'll be using the A/C to pay the extra for R12 if you can get a hold of any.
