Thanks for the advice, bro. Though, wouldn't this forum also be appropriate, as the '99-spec conversion only applies to 3rd-gens?
Hey, I noticed your screen-name; we have a blue Z28 in the garage right now. It's one of the older ones. Sounds really mean but it's an automatic transmission.

You REALLY need to start searching before you post dude... plus this is the 3rd Gen Technical issues forum there is a-whole-nother section dedicated for exterior/interior stuff.

Hey, Mugen. Yeah, they're fun to drive, but I dunno about the "daily-driver"; the V8 isn't too kind on gas mileage. I can't wait to find an affordable FD3S; I'm sure that'll be a lot more fun to drive.

I'll tell you right now though. You will get better gas mileage out of a V-8 then an FD. I fill up once a month on the Camaro and that's driven more while I fill up the RX-7 once a week. Gotta remember that the FD has a bigger tank also. Also omochi is right...affordable and FD do not belong in the same sentence together. Hehe.

Damn, I was under the impression that rotaries were good on gas until reading another thread. From what I've read so far, the stock engines are pretty much unreliable and dangerous; what a buzzkill!
I also read this: "You know you're an rx7 owner when you get into your car from the passenger door". Why is that? What's wrong with the driver's side door?

^Yes, and I'm still researching. In fact, I am reading up some information in another window open as I type this. Also, if you know of any informative links concerning FD's, I'd appreciate you sharing them with me.
Anyway, what's the deal with the driver's door?

research mechanical probs, etc first about the FD, then worry about comestics.. it's a beautiful looking car stock.
wrt the driver door, common prob is the door handle breaking. this is due to the grease eventually just.. not ... greasing? typically occurs when the weather gets very wet and moist and the grease goes away (to be blunt and the proper words escape my mind now).. easy fix is just take it apart and add grease. well, i'm sure same can be said about both sides, but seems for me, its the driver side that gives me trouble.
anyhow, most of hte info is the FAQ in this section i believe.. HTH. :0

Just to let you know and I'm sure most of us have done this...I searched and read about FD's for 3 months before I decided on buying one and knew exactly what I was getting into so naturally I have saved money to make sure and get the reliability mods out of the way. Even then you will still be amazed at how much you will end up spending on your FD. It's seriously worse then a gold digging asian female. I know that the thought of owning an FD overwhelms you and it did all of us but trust me when I say that a part of you will regret the decision to purchase one but the sure joy of owning/driving one will overpower any sensible thought you could have. To make this really simple...a 3rd Gen RX-7 is not a practical purchase at all. You are better off spending 30k on an old NSX which was one of my other choices aside from the FD. If I make no sense there is a reason right now.

Thanks for the advice and information, guys. Much respect.
Mugen, I know that an RX-7 isn't a practical car, but I have had my mind set on this car for quite some time now and I am determined to own one. I actually look foward to the countless hours of working in the garage.

I totally feel where you are coming from Fast & Red. I was there and man I'm still there haha. Everyone I know tried to bring me down about owning an RX-7 and I didn't care and still don't and the funny thing is that now that I own one they all want one...! By all means though I'm not trying to bring you down and say don't get one. If anything I encourage it since hopefully it seems that you really will take care of the car but seriouslly like everyone has said focus on the mechanical problems and then worry about cosmetic details. Just to simplify it for you.
Radiator - Replace it with a Fluidyne or Koyo.
AST - Replace it with one from Petit.
Downpipe - Replace with any that you choose but remember to get an ECU before you do this just incase of an overboost instance.
Lil drunk so uh *farts*.

How old are you? Im 22 and insurance is a bitch, along with the car payments, and the maintenence costs. Oh and 45 dollars every other week (2 cars) to fill it. Its not a cheap car, and it will try your patience more than you can even imagine.
Also, do you have a place to work on one? Tools? Because unless there are some good rotary mechanics in Kentucky, youre going to have to do all the work, or trust a mechanic who has most likely never seen a rotary.
