Possible 1993 VR R1 Sale

I own a red 1993 R1 with 46k on the odometer. The car is completely stock, except for the Aluminum radiator and AST. Garage kept, winter stored. Never any major engine or body work, basically a creampuff. What's it worth if I decide to sell? Any interest??

Depending on the overall condition, you should be able to get in the $15k range.
Check the for sale section and go by that.

I would think you could get more than 15K if you are not in a hurry to sell.

Overall condition is excellent. Paint is still shiny, except for the fin & mirrors (plastic). Interior is excellent, engine bay is clean.

Hard to sell relatively stock R1 (even with low miles) at 15k when you can buy a modded one with relatively the same miles on engine for same price.

May find a buyer looking to keep her stock but I would venture to guess most will end up modding dp/IC/radiator/etc

Stock car value > modded value.

I completely agree. I have to believe that a completely stock, low mile care is worth considerably more than a modded car.

I respectfully disagree...but it all depends on where the buyer puts their "value".

Unless you plan on keeping the car stock, I think in the long run you are better off buying a modded car for 15K vs a stock one for 15k...even if it is just reliability mods.

I don't think 15K is far fetched for what OP has though..just may be more difficult to get that sale.

and unless you want to sit on the stock FD for another 20 years in hopes that its value goes up...purchasing a modded one is the way to go for most of us.

In all of the 30 FD's I've bought and sold, I can say I've honestly never bought one with mods that didn't have some sort of problem or issue. The VAST majority of owners screw their cars up when they work on them.

AGREE...but stock cars have their own problems...even original ~20 year old ones.

I've seen a lot of stock cars not good because they never got any "reliability" mods and were driven hard even with low mileage...or they were screwed up by Mazda trained mechanics...hell Mazda sold cars that required TSB for engine fires in the beginning lol.

Again...to each his own. I wouldn't drop 15k on a stock FD but I know some purists out there who might....What the hell do I know thoughg...I'm just some guy that would bastardize a CYM by putting an LSx in it lol.

I have to agree with evot23. I'd say the community here is unreasonable...out of love...regarding the value and price of these cars in a stock condition. I believe people who "value" these as collector items are out of their minds unless you want to wait 20yrs and then perhaps prove me wrong.

I wouldn't pay above 10k for the OP's car. Anything above 10k? Better be getting an FD with a solid engine + quite a few aftermarket parts.

Mark...Eddie just doesn't get us. He's lucky we think he's adorable or else we'd have to give him back.

I had bought my 93 R1 completely stock back in 06 for 15K even. Had either 40K or 42K miles on it and the owner had all the receipts for any work and maintence done on it. It was garage kept it's entire life and the underbody was retardedly clean. None the less, every bit of rubber on the car was shot and when I took off the upper intake manifold it seemed like everything was just crumbling when touched. So in my opinion no matter how well kept the car is, as soon as something small breaks it's going to turn into a lot of small things to get replaced along with it.

Yep if it's been garaged, everything is working etc.... but it could take LONG time.

In order of importance to me:
Paint/body/weather stripping
Interior
Engine
SUSP
Trans
Diff
Tires
Glass

Anything broken missing or leaking

If everything is very good it's a 15k car easily (probably not the case with close to 50k miles). However if it needs paint it's a 12k car. If it sort of needs paint it's a 13k car. Now start adding anything else wrong with it and it may very well be a 10k or lower car as it sits right now.

Nice stock cars are the easiest to sell. I have two R2s that have been for sale for 1 or 2 years and they'd both be long gone if they were stock.

NOPE at this time it's all about the condition of the car and the mods are not that important in fact if the car has any aftermarket body parts or a single turbo/non sequential the value may be reduced unless those mods are done correctly which again is super rare even when done by rotary shops with good reputations because they are limited by the customers budget. No AC or PS even harder to sell etc...etc... There are rare occasions when you'll find a properly modded FD but that's more difficult than finding a nice stock one.

For example FD3Boost (Dave's old car) is for sale now at 25k. It doesn't have a radio, AC, PS, No ABS has been repainted a non stock color etc...etc... basically all the wrong things done that would ordinarily reduce it's value but to some folks those are all the right mods done the right way so different strokes for different folks.

I own a similar R2 that I bought with 35k miles on it. Currently has 42k miles on it and the exact opposite is true. The ORIGINAL vacuum hoses are still nice and soft.

Maybe the garage was in the desert

How do you know they're original? Mazda sold a hose replacement kit and many dealers used it.

If i ever decide to part ways with the FD, im going to part it out. No way ill get 15 for my car, probably not even 13 or 12k.

I guess i'm in the minority so far as i wouldn't buy a stock knowing full well I wouldnt keep it that way. I'd look at a modded one first...but I guess you have to be in the mindset that you're willing to work bugs out, deal with repairs and previous owner quirks. With the knowledge I have now about these cars, stock isnt for me unless the price is in the 10,11k range.

I think first time buyers may feel safer knowing one was stock (?) but just not me.

Hey David,
The orginal owner said that was the one thing he was concerned about and after he described the condition I was like no worries.

I've owned several low mileage cars and they all had very good vac lines. I also remember driving all way down to GA to look at a car with 28k miles that had faded paint, bad vacc lines etc..... I should of known the buyer only wanted 12k. I thought I scored big time LOL. Hey on the bright side the interior was good.

Kevin & Eddie are dead on here, with the assist from Mark. OP should be targeting 13k for his car, assuming it is a MT. Looks like I have a buyer finally lined up for mine this weekend.

If the car is in great shape it will pull $16-17k right now. Prices are rebounding for good to great cars. Not easy to find a non clapped out Fd these days. What do I know.
