POS walbro :(

man I hate these things... here's my story/complaints

I used to have 1 in my S4 TII...

whenever I sit in traffic for awhile.. the stupid thing would start wailing like an french police siren only slower.. WEEEEE oooooo WEEEEEE ooooo and the only way i could shut it up would be to get on open road and beat on the car... (some how boosting seemed to cure it )

so I thought it was a fluke.. and I got another one...

it's been in my FD... and i've had so many random problems with it..

again the stupid siren sounds started again.. then seemed to disapear.

I once got stranded in a restaurant parking lot.. so embarassing...

i got in.. fired it up... it was running really rough and didn't wanna idle..
I thought it was leaky injectors.. or the fact I cancelled the FPR bypass solenoid..

shut off the car.. try to fire it up again.. no luck

i thought I had flooded it... I pulled a plug they were bone dry... I realized the pump wasn't pushing...

eventually i took it all apart.. put it together again.. and it worked..

once in awhile.. the problem would re-occur.. hot rough start.. but if i "revved through it" it would be fine.. and settle back to normal...

it was ok for a couple months...

last night... i was chilling with some friends... fired up the car.. but i wasn't in it.. while standing next to the car, it was running rough.. I thought it would be ok.. i didn't rev it out... after about a minute of lopey idle... it died..

AND WOULDN"T ******* START... RROOOAARRRR

after cranjking and cranking and cranking.. it didn't work...

i sprayed carb cleaner thru the brake boost vacuume.. and the car started... by some miracle.. the fuel pump decided to take over again and start working... :S

so today.. car starts alright in the morning.. I go pick up my friend and drive back to his place... he goes in the house... while idling outside for approx 7 mins..

car dies...

and doesn't want to start!

this time the carb cleaner trick aint working... it just dies again..

STUPID POS WALBRO'S! they are absolute garbage.. I will never EVER buy another one again...

now I have to pillage my FC and take the Denso pump from it and put it in my FD..

my advice.. don't buy these crap pumps

This is why I use Denso or Bosch pumps only.

I've never used Walbro's, they die way too soon. Denso is the way to go, you can get a BNIB Supra TT pump for $260.

I've heard that there are some poorly made copies of walbros floating around. Is this true? If so may thats your problem. I had a walbro in my G35 and in my current FD, no problems with either, knock on wood.

Sure is. Always buy from a reputable dealer. Probably how none of my 4 have failed or given me any problems.

I dunno if mine is a knock off.. but I did buy it from a reputable vendor..

I dunno if it overheated from running low gas..

the recent problems might be a coincidence..

but I was doing a Fuel consumption test on my car.. as my car drinks abnormal amounts of gas..

I put 50 liters of gas in.. and was seeing how many miles I could get before needing to refuel...

the odo showed 160 miles.. and the needle was a little bit of the E mark.. (less than a 1/4 for sure)

that's with NO BOOST for the whole tank.. and never going above 30% inj D cycle on stock injectors

my gas consumption is pathetic..

5.8 km's per liter?!

in my M5 i'm getting 8.X kms per liter..

i wonder if all the grannying and low fuel killed the walbro.. hmmm

There's SOOO many companies making "Walbro's." I've found a company that makes an excellent 255lph pump! I haven't had one problem with them. I run two of them with no problems. I think it's really who you get them from. If you buy a plastic one off of ebay for $50 expect it to last a week. I buy mine for $130 and they're great!

The supra pump flows 277lph so it's higher flowing as well.

Bosch or Denso.

No personal experience with 7s, seen many fail on GT-Rs. I won't touch them.
