My engine compartment. Polished aluminum and a few chromed steel parts.

Polished, 2yrs ago... The only maintence done is washing/rinsing the motor. I use a towel and compressed air to dry it off before I drive it.

I had the alternator torn apart and took it to the polishing/chroming place. The alternator housing itself is polished, the screws, pulley and pulley nut are chromed.

Basically if it is shiny and is aluminum = polished. If it is shiny and steel = chromed.

Pull it apart and have it Jet-hot coated.

I polished this stuff.

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...9372YUwciunPMQ

This is a picture of the GRM $2002 Challenge car that me and Jeff H. did. The FC altornator has less holes, so it a little easier to work with than the FD altornator. After some sanding wiht the DA, I went to work with a 1 HP, 1625 RPM motor w/ 8" buffing wheel, and some tripoli polish Redish/tan color). After all sanding scratches and casting marks were gone, I finished with a light green rouge, and Tah-dah.

Same thing with the UIM, water neck, and water pump housing.

PS- Ricki, you have to polish something before you chrome plate it. Otherwise, it really wouldn't look shiney. Remember, "a turd dipped in chrome doesn't look like a chrome turd, it just looks like a turd that you dipped in chrome."

Bling, bling!!!

He worked his *** off to do this. Looks awesome and is cheaper than sending it out.

Ditto with the polish before chroming comment. Chrome without polishing will be shiny and bumpy.

Jet hot is another good option, very durable, low maintence. Downside is it doesn't look so shiny. Upside is you can just wash it off and not worry about it at all.
