Polished Aluminum Gate Shifters anyone???
I know of a Waterjet company that can make me gated shifters out of aluminum. . I was wondering if there would be a market for these? I will have to first get the measurements for the throws of the shifter, and I'm sure that there would have to be several different gate patterns for stock and aftermarket shifters. I'm not sure that people would be interested in them though, for I would think that they would slow down the shifting process. More than likely it would be an asthetic mod.

I'm not, but here's why. I like shift boots. With a gated shifter, you need a polished shifter to go with it, and the boot is removed. If you have a stock **** atop a polished shifter, it would look ghettto IMO. You'd be better off trying to sell a kit, polished shifter, ****, and gate.

1 BAD 7 - can we see a pic of this italian leather boot? I like the nice leather and* the gated shifter. Guess it's just up to looks. Its kinda hard to imagine one on an FD though

I made a few "gate shifters" for my FD with a waterjet i used to draw parts for and ran into a few problems.
1. The stock shifter is about 1" diameter where the gate would be . I removed the original shaft and replaced it with a ~3/8" rod
2. After that the entire gate opening was only about 1" wide by 2" high so i couldn't even make a real gate. Just a little rectangle.
All i can figure is that in cars that have gate shifters either they slide along the gate instead of pivot like ours or they have a pivot point that is much lower than the gate location on the center console.
I hope that made sense

I would love it. If it looked good and worked fine, I'd pay up to $300. I love the look of them on the classic ferraris and the feel is like nothing else. You get little metal *tings* every shift you make. I recorded it once onto a cd. If anybody is interested in hearing a sound clip... tell me how to post it coming from a cd.

you also need to put little black inscribed #'s at the end of each gate.
The plate itself would also need to curve upward to match the curve of the console... a little like the automatic FD's plastic piece. I'm sure you could even use the plastic for a mold or something along the lines.
Also, what about having it sit up a little higher to sit flush with the plastic console panels?
Do I ask for too much?
