Please help, no boost from 2nd turbo
Hi all. I just picked up my 94 Touring and am having a blast, except that my 2nd turbo is not boosting. In third gear I will get 7.5lbs of boost up until the transition, then it drops to about 5 and gradually down to about 0 at redline. The previous owner had these mods, petit intake, DP, and catback. He had boost restricted to 8-6-8 since it has no computer upgrades. I have heard you need 8lbs to spool the 2nd turbo, is this why I am not getting boost (only reaching about 7). Any help would be appreciated. thanks guys/gals.

If you're getting a 7-5-4-3-2-1-0 boost pattern, you're not having a blast yet trust me. Since it is a gradual loss of boost, I would think your main cat may be clogged. If you're dropping to 5psi at 4500 rpms, then you are building enough primary boost to get the secondary going, it just may not be going. Do you feel any increase in power at 4500 rpms? If not, something is not allowing your turbo control actuator to open. Pop the vacuum lines off both your pressure tank and vacuum tank. You should hear air escaping each one (for the tank that has two lines, you will only need to remove one hose to let the air out). If not, you have either a bad turbo control solenoid (there are two TC solenoids, one on the solenoid rack, and one next to the air control valve), vacuum hose or check valve for that system. The cheapest things to replace are the check valves and vacuum hoses, so try them first. Don't bother testing the check valves b/c a bad one can still pass the test. Buy some cheap ones, but make sure they are one way. Don't buy HELP products, they don't like heat. BTW, turn your boost back up to 10-8-10. You shouldn't have a problem with your mods as long as you maintain stock boost levels. Just keep an eye on it on cool days and adjust it as necessary until you get a computer.
