I guess no one is worried about the rotor housings. I brought that up (said side housings by mistake and got a nice little retort for it). I made that assertion due to the harder seals btw.

housings>seals in my book.

a relatively mild FD shouldn't have any problem running over 100,000 miles. After that, replace seals and drive for another 50-75.

i'll sit this one out. I want a good seal so i will go 3 peice anyway.
Umm...you know that mazda threw away their 3 piece design for the 2 piece design right? Go try to order apex seals from mazda and you'll have a surprise coming to you. Mazda determined that even though the 3 piece design sealed better at low RPM, the seals lost strength faster.

Also, if you read their website, they tell you that the best results with these seals are with NEW rotor housings. I'd much rather blow up apex seals too, but when an apex seal DOES blow, it normally takes out the rotor housing anyways(except for the atkins seals).

any seal will work better with new housings.

I asked which series. I only knew up to 6.

When i took apart an engine i got from pineapple from a previous owner they used 3 peice..........

Musta been old stock.

this is the info i like to hear.......... never hear stuff like this and it's not often disscussed.

information is the key to a sound judgment and it seems i was lacking the full story.

thnx

Yep, before the RX-8 came out, mazda put a lot of time in R & D on apex seals...considering that they are the number 1 failure of our engine's(number 2 being coolant seals).
