Picked up Knight Sport v-mount kit!!!

There is a forum memeber looking to get the kit from project import and was told $3500 shipped. I am not sure if that will come with the intake an the battery tray as well.
Yes I have a dog.The kit is in my house locked up in a room with a laser sight mac 10 to protect it. ha ha ha
If Koyo will sell the radiator to you this would be a great start for DIY kit.

I have an idea. Why don't you measure up the dimensions of the I.C and Radiator, shape of brackets etc and if someone was interested they could make a custom one using the template from the KS one.
I'm very sure a majority of forum members here would secretly prefer the V mount and for someone to come up with a custom one which is cheaper and sell it here I know I would buy one.

Do you have to move the relay box behind the front bumper? Did you keep the AC and PS.. What kind of mods do you have to do to keep those? Also I see you have the Greddy Elbow. What pipe did you use between that and the Vmount? Nice lookin setup. Going to have to get me one..

No, I didn't translate the instructions so I had do a little guess work. The AC and power steering was kept.
I had to bend the AC lines to make it fit, I broke my original AC lines and had to order a new set. The AC Condenser brackets had to be bent to as well. I love my AC, can't bear to part with it.
As for the power steering cooling lines, I bought a transmission cooler and used that instead. Go to jegs or summit racing and order something you think you can figure you can mount somewhere. I mounted something like this (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_353826_-1) to the front subframe, but if I were to do it again, I might get a perma-cool kind. The unit I bought wasn't so good, but I'm too lazy to do it again.
As for the Greddy elbow, it was part of a Greddy hard pipe kit that connects to the stock mount intercooler setup. Then it was cut and re-beaded to fit with the Knight Sports intercooler. You should be able to go to a pipe shop and have them fabricate just that piece if you already have the Greddy elbow. Bring your stock plastic elbow with your Greddy elbow, tell them you need a pipe that'll connect just like the stock elbow pipe.
The front relay box is tucked under the front part of the bumper.

Any custom radiator shop will make the radiator for you. IC can be bought in Ebay cheap. All the rest is details. Just depends on how much time one has to DIY. Can be done just like KS for about 1000.00

Ron Davis used to make the radiators for KS. The intercoolers are generic. As long as it fits the space you want and you source the piping, that's it. The rest is just brackets and mounting which may be the most difficult for people if they do not have the correct equipement to fab some up.. However, any welding shop will make whatever brackets you want and it won't cost you 3500.

I for one do not have the time to make one. I my see about copying the brakets and having a shop make a few sets and see about making a kit for other. I will have to see what this will coast me.
Rototy extreme large kit was about $2500 with out battary try, and intake box. I would have bought this if they did not close down.
I did the next best think, buy JDM. A nice kit at that. most kits do not have radiators and do not come as complete. People can say I should have or could have. Guess what I did what I wanted.
Remember there are people who like front mount, side mount, and v-mount. I like v-mount. I also like the cool factor if nothing more then I have KS v-mount.

I was going to get one build, and i wish it was 1k. Just the ic core was going to run me $600, plus radiator but i was going to try and use my koyo, radiator hoses, clamps, silicone hoses, and the fab time. I do not really see a kit running 1k. Even if you diy, time is money, so you would easily spend over 1k.
Can you guys tell me what size that intercooler core is?

From someone who's actually MAKING a V-mount kit, I can tell you that if you want it 100% drop-in, and done RIGHT, it does NOT cost anywhere NEAR a grand. It's a LOT more. There are a *plethora* of minor yet significant touches and modifications to be taken into account. But then again, some ppl just want the "V" setup using crappy generic parts. I'm sure you can do that, but then why bother anyway? My motto is and always will be "do it once, do it right." Or bust.

You are about right on the price of the Ron Davis rad. They quoted me $850. So now you need to fab brackets, and rad hoses and then find a good intercooler and fab pipes and brackets for that also.
Then you have to fab brackets for the a/c condensor and figure out what to do about the a/c lines.
The little things all add up. If you have the time, material and fab tools to do that, then yeah it will cost you quite a bit less than $3,500. I don't think anyone will argue that point. But it won't be $1k.

They did tell me that it is a proprietary design so the one made for me couldn't be exactly the same. However, it will be essentially, and functionally the same. As I understand it, KS doesn't even use Ron Davis anymore as they source their radiators from KOYO now. The design of the new radiators is completely different. It looks kinda cool now. Not sure why they changed it. Maybe the new design cools better.

True little things can add up. It may end up costing a bit more. But like I said if one has the time a lot of it can be done yourself. I honestly cannot justify spending 3500 dollars for a few hundred dollars worth of parts. It is a very nice looking kit though. I have talked to some people that bought their earlier kits and it was not "plug and play" Some fitment isues.

I will be giving numbers from this kit as well as the install of the mid pipe and my first tune for my PFC.
At the same time of installing the v-mount I will be installing vinton hose, gasket match ported intaked mans. and a mid pipe.
This will go along with the DP and Graddy Ti with a PFC.
What Kind of hp gains are you guessing out here.

I believe in one of my issues of RX-7 Magazine, they did a test on this and a few different set ups and companies utilizing vmics. I feel it is well worth the money, but you can for sure get this kit for cheaper than $3,500. Even if you did buy it for $3,500, it is R&D that you're paying for. How do you know if your so called custom kit works so well? Companies go through a lot of test fitting to find the right angles, and the look and functionality they need. Look how long it's taking Ramy to design his. He didn't just say,"Hey I'm going to build a VMIC tomorrow...". Not to say that you're saying you can make it so fast, but I'm just saying these things aren't easy as said and done.
