by the way, here was a snipet from the NASA Pro Racing report of the event (with corrected name spelling and lap times):
[snip]
About 125 drivers participated in this inaugural NASA Midwest event. Cars
ranged from miatas to corvettes, and these guys and gals were cookin!...
...and Damian Dela Huerta put down the fastest HPDE lap at a 2:31 in his Turbo RX-7.
Drivers were giving each other plenty of room to enjoy the track, and
everyone improved greatly!

Nice job Damian. Shows you are really pushing the car to its limits. What other high end cars were there that were dialed for the track?
How many years have you been racing?

thanks :-) but I am really not pushing the car to its limits, only the current limit of my driving skill, anyone who runs hpde event with me or comes along as a passenger will tell you that I dont push very hard, im very conservative driver, I really take my time increasing the speed so that my skills catch up. The car is just a fast track car, no matter who is driving, and now that I feel good with the car an my skill level, I can make some pretty decent lap times :-)
.... I still have a lot to learn yet.
>>How many years have you been racing?
first let me say that racing and HPDE are vastly different, I dont concider myself a race driver (yet).... although I have done soem exhibition wheel-to-wheel races, real racing is much different than hpde or time trials and it would discredit rear race drivers to lump what we do in hpde event with real racing.
last year was my first year with the yellow track beast and my first year at the big tracks like RoadAmerica, MidAmerica, et. The previous year I did some smaller local road trackswith my blue 95 fd and some event at BIR. So in total I only been at it for 2 or 3 years. However, I got addicted quick, so last year alone I did over 24 events, that is like compressing 2 or 3 season into one, lots of seat time.... and it showed, I made huge gains in my lap times from the start to the end of the year, while only making incramental changes every lap, that keep speed gains in a relativly safe and managable rate for my skill level.
the only thing holding me back from full on w-2-w racing with nasa is a full cage, once i get that in then I'll definetly step up to w2w. :-)
