Pettit coolcharge II fitment

I was talking w/ Pettit last week about some fixes I've been wanting to do and they mentioned replacing my greddy smic with the coolcharge III. I told them I wasn't really interested in the III because it requires a new intake and battery relocation. I am running the stock intake and a optima redtop that is the size of the stock battery so I didn't want to have to buy a new intake and buy a smaller batter and relocate it. They told me a customer just traded in his coolcharge II for a III a few days ago and it was in great shape and it would fit with stock intake and stock battery. So I said OK I'll buy it. I have planned on replacing my greddy smic for awhile since I am planning to eventually go single turbo and saw that someone used the II with a small single and didn't have intake temp issues. I figured ok, buy now and use with stock twins and re-use later.

Well the box arrived tonight so I couldn't wait to put it in. Opened the box and immediately said to myself, this will never fit with stock battery & stock intake. But I decided to amuse myself and start taking out the old setup. Sure enough, it doesn't come close. It looks like it requires at least a smaller battery/tray (the side rubs the stock battery tray), and as well as a new intake. Maybe the old version of the II (with the curved piping) would fit, but this thing won't. Now I have to figure out if I want to keep this thing and mod the intake & battery so I can use it. Not sure on what to do at the moment. Part of me says keep it and use it or at least save it till I go single turbo. Other part of me says if I go through the trouble of buying an intake + smaller battery I might as well buy a better intercooler system altogether (vmic/fmic).

Here's a side by side pic of stock, greddy, pettit coolcharge II.

I had a group 51 sized Optima red top in the stock location on the battery tray when I had my old CCII (recently sold to go v-mount) and it fit fine. I did have GReddy intake, however.

I'll look at the fitment again tonight. Did you guys bolt yours to the support bar? When I made the holes match up, the side of the cooler was hitting the battery tray so I could only get the left side bolt in.

I'll take some pics and post them as well.

Yes, there should be tabs welded to the bottom of the CCII core that bolt the removable support bar, where the A/C lines are clipped to. It's a tight fit, but mine fit fine without touching the battery tray.

No way it would fit the OEM airbox, however.

Cross bar, everything out of the way. I found I need to sand & repaint the bar.

Left side hole lined up

Positioning of right side (when left side is still lined up) Hitting battery tray

I call this "false-fitment". I had to lift the right side and turn it towards the front bumper. Shouldn't it fit parallel with the support bar?

Shouldn't these tabs be on the outside of the duct?

Yes, those tabs should be on the outside of the duct, and it should mate flush with the intercooler.
They're mounting tabs. Bend them with some pliers.

It's a shame you can't just flip it over, relocate the battery, and keep the stock intake.

I have just hesitant to start bending stuff to make it fit since I haven't seen one of these in person.

Your right bottom mounting tab looks bent for sure. Just bend into place until it fits right. It is soft aluminum, so be careful not to bend the metal too much to the point of fatiguing and breaking.

Looks like those taps were bent maybe during shipping or something, if you bent the bottom tab a little it should line up with the hole. The IC look like it is at the right position in the first couple pictures, just bent the tabs to make everything else fit and you should be good to go.

Sucked it up and worked on the tabs. Looks like it will fit if I have it pushed against the battery tray. Going to start working on my oil coolers now.
