Pettit Cool Charge II

I recently recieved an older style Pettit CCII intercooler from a shop down in Florida and was curious how this style intercooler mounts exactly.

There are no mounting tabs on the bottom face of the intercooler or any where else for that matter. Does something need to be fabricated in order to mount the CCII intercooler to the cross member?

On a side note, I noticed that the Pettit CCIII actually has mounting tabs welded to the intercooler.

Any suggestions?

It just sits in there, it doesn't bolt to anything:

Yep it just sit's in there. You can place a thin piece of foam or rubber on the bottom of it to keep it from rubing metal to metal. But basicly just rests on the cross rail that runs in front of the motor. Jack

Wow, I'm a bit surprised how this setup works. The intercooler has quite a bit of mass to it and I'm thinking a majority of the force to keep the intercooler in place will reside in the couplers.

I also noticed that the intercooler practically rest on the radiator fan wiring as well. With this intercooler resting in there I'm wondering if slight movement over time may begin to wear these wires.

Well it's aftermarket and I suppose I will have to deal with it or make some small tweaks along the way.

Thanks for the info

This is a nice intercooler for what it worth. Do you by any chance have the polished version ? ? ? ? I'm running a Koyo and mine doesn't rub on the wires and my radiator sits higher than stock. I'm not positive but I think this inter cooler works with the stock air box (not sure) been so long since I had a stock air box. Got any pictures of it ? ? ?

It's not polished, but I will be polishing it before I do the install. I might need to take another look at the clearances between the radiator fan wiring and the intercooler once again. I quickly dropped it in and lined up the crossover pipe and the pipe leading to the throttle body and checked clearances. That’s when I noticed the intercooler was fairly close to the wiring.

I’ll take another look though especially since you are running the koyo with no problems.

I believe the CCII requires an aftermarket intake of some sort also, but then again I’m not entirely sure since I’m running apexi intakes.

Oh and I don't have any pics of it just yet, but I should have something soon.

Man that first pic looks damn nice, especially with the polished IC. It would be a shame not to polish this thing before I put it in.

Then again before all that I also need to get my hands on an intercooler duct too seeing how the one I bought didn’t come with it.

I’ll most likely have to come up with something on my own since finding a used duct has been somewhat difficult.

I also noticed you have a mounting tab for the AST as well….Mine doesn’t have that.

Anyhow thanks for the pics.

Yea I could still kick myself for letting that one go. At least the guy lives close so I get visitation ! ! ! ! ! I should have mine polished soon enough, I'll post some pictures when it's done. Did someone cut the AST mounting tab off yours ??? Were going to try and make a carbon fiber duct for ours so if it works out one of us will have a duct available. I may just go with an over lay of CF and not make a complete one, I'll keep you posted. Jack
